Tax exemptions for someone self employed?

What is it that I can write off? I work from home and there are things I need for my job and I am not sure how much or what I can write off. Do I need to open up an LLC and have my employer pay the LLC in order to write things off such as my lease payment on my car?

If I were to buy a printer and/or office desk would these be exemptions?

I do quite a bit. I manage parts of the company I work for and am also listed as an adviser. Hope this helps.

You're asking about business expense deductions, NOT exemptions. Exemptions are governed by your filing status and the number of dependents claimed on your return and have nothing to do with your business.

You may take a home office deduction if you have set aside a portion of your home for EXCLUSIVE business use. You can take a proportional share of the costs of running your home, either based upon room count if the rooms are approximately the same size or by the relative square footage of the business use are compared to the total size of the home.

All other reasonable and necessary business expenses in the production of taxable income are deductible. Office equipment, supplies, separate business phone lines and internet connections, etc. are all deductible.

Don't waste your money on an LLC unless you are involved in a risky business that exposes you to significant personal liability such as a medical or legal practice. There are no tax benefits to an LLC and in most cases you will pay higher total taxes and incur higher tax retrun prep costs and reporting costs with an LLC.

Do not bother with an LLC, it will not reduce your taxes.

Exactly what kind of work do you do?

You really need to see a professional until you get a better handle on the basics.
