Breaking an Apartment lease in Maryland? |
I signed a one year lease in a Maryland apartment in Sept. of 2007 and this month I got transferred to a different office which is 54 miles away. What are my options for getting out of this lease to move closer to my job. Waiting it out is not really an option. If you know the D.C. Baltimore area 54 miles can equate to a 2.5 hour drive home. Your main option is to buy out the remaining term of your lease. If you break the lease early you will likely be sued. You may be able to save yourself the expense by finding a suitable tenant who can immediately take your place. This has to be worked out with the landlord and can take much more time than you probably have available. Good finance question! I know of an organization that gives up to $1500 to people to help them with their rent or mortgage. It's available in most US cities, I highly suggest you check it out. |
