What can be done about loud neighbors in an apartment? |
I live in Northern NY and my neighbors slam cupboards, doors, bang on the walls, and play their tv and stereo loud almost all the time. I have complained to the landlord several times, as it disturbs the comfort of me and my husband and our two young sons. They have their tv loud past 11pm every night. My landlord told me that it is up to me to resolve it with the neighbor. I have tried and she is impossible to deal with. However, last Saturday the neighbor came over and knocked on the door. She said my kids were making too much noise (by the way they were not, we were up in the bedroom coloring!) and I told her to leave because her family are the loud ones and that my kids are being quiet upstairs coloring. She left. The following Monday I received a lease violation from the landlord, stating that the kids were making noise past 11pm that night! I went and talked with the landlord and she told me to get out of her office, that she was tired of my complaining. What can I do? I will be moving, but not for a few months. But until then, they are making it hell. I have contacted the company that owns the apartments and they side with the landlord. The landlord always sides with my neighbor, the reason is not known to me. I am a good tenant and it is crazy to have to deal with this. There is no noise ordinence in my town, and the lease says to not make noise that will disturb the comfort of your neighbors. I just don't understand why the landlord says it is not her problem? That I have to be the one to stop the neighbor from being loud. If that is the case...then WHY did she give ME a violation for being loud? When my neighbor went to complain, she didn't say that to her obviously. A few months ago the noise was so loud at 2am I called the cops who never came out. I reported it to the landlord and she sent me a letter saying, "after an investigation I find you falsely reported them" and gave ME a violation! I can't wait to move, lol. -hold a friendly tenant meeting so that everyone can come up with a plan not to disturb each other--leave the landlord out of it and/or: move out or take the ***** to court I think it would be good for you to move out to different apartment instead of fighting against. The landlord and your neighbors loose a nice tenant and neighbor. honestly i would think bout moving some where else. that is what i would do. that is just rediculas. |
