How can McCain become President, he's not a natural born citizen?

John McCain was born August 29, 1936 in the Panama Canal Zone, to two U.S. citizens. It鈥檚 a common misunderstanding that the zone was a U.S. territory - in fact, the U.S. had lease rights, but not territorial rights.

The US Constitution states, 鈥淣o person except a natural born citizen, or a citizen of the United States, at the time of the adoption of this Constitution, shall be eligible to the office of President; neither shall any person be eligible to that office who shall not have attained to the age of thirty five years, and been fourteen Years a resident within the United States.鈥?

鈥淣atural Born Citizen鈥?- 鈥渋s where ONLY the natural act of one being born in a place determines the status of ones citizenship with no additional stipulations necessary to influence that status鈥?/div>

Excepting for a few astute people who answered this question so far, what part of 'Natural Born Citizen' do you not understand ?

No law or court ruling has ever established the precise definition of a natural born citizen. It is generally agreed that a natural born citizen of the United States is any person born in one of the 50 states or the District of Columbia.

Maybe you need to tell Mitt Romney.

Is he "American enough" after being stuck in a Vietnamese hellhole for 5 1/2 years or after serving our country in the Senate for the past 21 years? Maybe he's "American enough" because both his father & grandfather were admirals in the US navy? Report It

I should point out that when Barry Goldwater ran for pres, this same question came up. Barry Goldwater (as I'm sure you ALL know) was born in Arizona before it was a state. This did not stop him and ironically enough, it won't stop his senate successor, John McCain. Report It

If your parents are American you are an American citizen.

The Panama Canal Zone was occupied by the U.S. milt. when McCain was born there. Therefore it was U.S. land. Of course a Ron Paul supporter would assume that the whole nation had overseen this and they were the only ones smart enough to catch it.

His father was in the military, stationed in the Panama canal Zone. Off spring of military personnel stationed anywhere in the world are US citizens.

A child born overseas to an American citizen is automatically given American citizenship.

When he was born, that area was American controlled. This is considered "American soil" much the same way an American Embassy is.

I don't like the guy either, but making false and intellectually dishonest accusations will make you and whoever you support look dumb while bolstering the will of those who do support him.

Natural born citizen is citizen by birth - Title 8 (http://www4.law.cornell.edu/uscode/8/140... ) defines the conditions.

McCain was born at Coco Solo Air Base. Any and all American military bases are automatically American territories.

If both of your parents are American citizens, then you are one too. No matter where you were born. You have the option of being a citizen of the country you were born in, however.

When your mother is a US citizen who gives birth abroad the child is consider a US citizen....however the child may share dual citizenship if the parents so wish.

Anonymous guy. Look at his.

The requirements for citizenship and the very definition thereof have changed since the Constitution was ratified in 1788. Congress first extended citizenship to children born to U.S. parents overseas on March 26, 1790, under the first naturalization law: "And the children of citizens of the United States that may be born beyond sea, or outside the limits of the United States, shall be considered as natural born citizens.

Therefore he is a "Natural Born Citizen."
