Whats the worst that could happen?

If I painted my apartment? I dont think I am supposed to? If I paint it back to the same color when my lease goes up then whats the harm? Can they evict me if I paint? I'm gonna call our leasing office Monday because we just renewed our lease, and I am going crazy with the white walls. I can't live another year with them. I just want to know if
a.) any of you know the legalities of it
b.) have any of you ever been evicted for painting your apartment? Or have you gotten away with it?

You have to get permission to paint or do anything which changes the premises. They will usually let you if you are going to pay for it yourself, but they may restrict you on the colors. Dark colors are hard to cover up, it can be expensive to do so. Usually they don't have a problem with it otherwise. Sometimes if it has been awhile since it was painted, they may reimburse you for it.

Well the legal aspect is, you just vandalized an owners property. They might evict you, because they may no longer trust you with living on their property. You will still, most likely, have to pay for the damage. Or say goodbye to your deposit.

Just paint the walls and be care full not to get paint on trim and light fixtures. The cost eviction is rather high to the land lord and the hassles are endless. I really doubt it will happen over a good quality paint job.

You have to get permission. You do not own the apartment, therefore you would be vandalizing the owner's property. You could be sued for a very large amount of money, ergo it would not be worth it. Talk to your landlord about it before you do anything drastic.

If you are sick of the plain walls, you could hang up paintings, mirrors and other decorations.
If you want more colours you could tack coloured sheets or blankets over the walls so it looks painted.
