My husband wants to move in Floriday?

My husband wants us to move to Florida. He wants to move to Florida because of the tropical weather and we love to travel too, I guess he just doesn鈥檛 want to live in California anymore. The thing is neither one of us has been there? We don鈥檛 have kids yet. I have been living here in California, so I don鈥檛 really know how it鈥檚 like over there. Most of my family is here in California so that鈥檚 makes me feel a little confused, but I know that he鈥檚 my husband and willing to go anywhere he wants. He adores my family, but he鈥檚 thinking that it will be good for us. If we decide to move there, we are going to have to move on August because our lease is up on July. I guess, I鈥檓 just a little worry because we both has not been there yet, and I don鈥檛 know how easy to find a job over there. He and I have a lot of experience on offices job.

Do you think that it will be a big risk to leave everything here knowing we both don鈥檛 know what鈥檚 going to be ahead of us? He keeps telling me that it鈥檚 going to be good for both of us and everything will be okay and I believe him, but of course I can鈥檛 help not to worry about it since it鈥檚 a big risk.

yes it is a big risk!! you need to do a vacation search before you decide to move there...take like a couple of weeks and kinda travel around the state a little because when you move there you are stuck there...do a little site seeing

No, it's not a good idea to leave your family and move clear across the country where you do not know ANYONE, you have NO friends, you do not know the area, the culture, the cost of living, the lack of good jobs, etc.
I see a red flag. This is his way of contolling you, keeping you under lock and key, so you will have to depend on him and only him.
Don't do it girl, I'm warning you, you'll regret it as the biggest mistake of your life.

things change for a reason....

a few Advantages of Florida has over Ca.

1) you never have to pay property taxes....(hence the reason a lot of seniors move there...)

2) Job Market is actually better

3) cost of living isn't anything near Ca. (cheaper, but no too much, still is though)

The two of you should plan a trip there to see what its like there for about 2weeks and see if you can decide on more from there...you won't be able to decide til you and hubby both go there....

I myself love FL, but personally could never live there. I woud suggest that you take a nice long vacation there and travel the state and see if you like it enough to actually live there. The weather itself is going to be alot different from CA too (i used to live in CA) so that will be another hard thing to get used to.
Maybe it will be good for both of you, and maybe everything will be okay, but if you move to a new state and don't have your normal support system, such as your friends and family, and don't have a job ready things will be tough for you and things will be stressful.
The stress from moving across country alone can make things very difficult for you and your husband, then add on not having a job already, being in a new state, and then not having your friends and family around like you're used to.......yes it will be a very big risk!!
You are the only one that will be able to make that choice though.

I've got family that lives in florida,My sister lives in Destin,Fl with her Husband and kids for about 5 yrs now,what i know for a fact is jobs are easy to come by if you are in sales,and construction trades are blooming,Because of the the Hurricanes they have,They have the these storms hit Destin,Navarra,Milton,the Pensicola area,I'm not sure about home insurance in California,But in Florida Home insurance is high.I would try on the Internet for job listings for office work,good luck!

I grew up in Ft. lauderdale but now its crowded.If you do decide to go to Florida, You can expect Hurricanes and you can't have a basement because water in florida is about 6 to 8 feet blow the surface. Now florida is a tourists state, so IF your lucky enough to get a job count on it being non-union. Poison snakes, meskitos sand storms sand that comes into your jealousy windows. When cold weather hits all you have is wall heaters normally. Theirs no protection from hurricanes. DONT DO IT.

Been there a great number of times. Have relatives there.

GREAT place to VISIT! Don't even THINK of moving there!

Having lived in 3 parts of FL for over 15 years (Jax, Orlando, and Pensacola), I know Florida well. I actually moved across country to the SF bay area not knowing anyone here. Its not bad here but it is tough dealing with the time differences and travelling to see family.

A few things...

1. There ARE property taxes... there is not a state income tax. That's why old people move to Fl... that and its warm.

2. The cost of living is less than CA but prices have really shot up over the last 10 years and its not that much cheaper anymore.

3. Good (career) jobs are very hard to come by. Florida jobs consist of service industry, lots of hours, low wages, and dealing with tourists. If you are in healthcare (old folks), real estate, or construction... there are jobs. But all in all, very few good paying jobs exist in FL.

4. Summers are extremely hot. Winters aren't too bad... you will get several freezes up north... not much down south.

5. The roads suck. The state does a horrible job updating the roads to handle the influx of new residents but it has gotten better in the past 5 years.

6. People are pretty friendly in most parts of Florida (south FL being the exception where people are very pretentious... LA like).

7. The beaches are better in Florida and ocean/gulf are warmer so you can enjoy the water more.

8. Better sports fans, sports bars in Florida.... better history and culture in California.

I summarize by saying this... Florida is very different between the panhandle, north, central, & southern areas so it depends on where you want to go. Only go if you have a decent job or good income lined up and you can handle being apart from your family/friends in CA. If you can't, don't go. If you do go, prepare yourself for the heat & humidity. I say avoid South Florida unless you like the LA feel. The I-4 corridor is not too bad for daily living but not much for jobs. Jacksonville is actually a pretty nice town, a lot of industry, and a beach town.

I live about 25 miles south of the Kennedy Space Center. I love it here (Late February, Daytime highs in the low 80's). You will need to save up to get a start here, though. Look into Brevard county real estate on the internet. Brevard is the least built-up and Lowest cost county on the east coast of Florida.

P.S. It is a thrill to see our guys go up into space. Also get a lot of bonus rocket launches!!We also rarely get a hurricane here. None last year, and the previous two years were not normal. Look at real estate between Cocoa and Melbourne. Lowest prices, and it is a buyer's market right now. Also, the humidity is not nearly as bad near the east coast, because we are on the water. Check out areas near the Indian River, Or the Banana River. I live in a sweet townhome community called "River Way". It is on the Indian River. Our community is receiving an award from the "Keeping Brevard Beautiful" association!!
