Apartment required to give home-buyers clause as option? |
I live in Texas and signed a standard TAA lease with my aparment. We found a home and are planning on buying, but now we will suffer financial penalties because we have to break our lease. When speaking with someone at the apartment management office, they asked if we had signed a "home-buyers clause" , an addendum to the standard lease. When I told them I was not aware of any clause, I was told we had to "ask" for it at contract signing. My brother stated his apartment (also TAA contract) made him sign a paper that stated he did not want the addendum. So now I'm wondering: was my apartment required to give me the option in the first place? No, there is no such requirement. This option is something they came up with themselves. It is very uncommon. |
