Checking ur rental history?

how does a rental office preform a check on ur rental history? is there any way that i can find out what an old apartment said about my contract/lease?

my friends and i are getting an apartment and we want to look up our renters history to see what they will find out........ we have never been evicted, and haven't done anything wrong while leasing an apt. we have for forfieted - moved out before lease expired... will this effect our effect on getting another apt?......... how can i find out what is on my renters history?

i forgot to add, what if u have good renters history with 4 apt., but u had to break the lease for the 5th, would an apt. still lease u?
and if u owe money, but set up a payment plan would they still lease u?

There is no central bureaucracy that apartment complexes or landlords report to, so you can't get a rental history the same as you could get a credit report. Individual landlords and apartment complexes alike will simply answer any questions the rental office asks, or will fill a form and return it via fax. It will basically be:

"When did they live there?" "Any late payments?" "Any bad checks?" "How much was the rent?" "Did they give a notice" "Any complaints?" "Is there any balance due?" "Would you re-rent?"

You will probably know the answers to all of those questions, so there is nothing to worry about if all those things are positive.

You broke a previous lease agreement. That is not a big deal as long as you don't owe any money to them.

The easiest and cheapest way is to have a friend call and pretend they are wanting to rent to you! That's what I do...They will usually call back the same day and then if they say anything bad you can go and see them and sort it out!
