Name as reference?

Hi
Somebody put my name down as a reference when they bought a car. However that car was repossessed .
Now I have a legal office calling me talking about I need to call them because I am a legal reference to that person and we need to discuss the case.
Am I going to be help ressponsible in any way???
I mean my name wasn't at all in the lease or anything, just as a reference, that I knew the person.
Can they do this? How can I fight it? Should I call them? Plus the office they are calling isn't local, it's all 888's numbers.

unless you signed saying you were responsible for the lease you are in no way responsible for anything. They want to talk to you and have you tell them information such as how to get ah old of the person at work, home, cell number, etc...
You are not obligated to give them any information and they can not continue to call you if you inform them that you have no information for them. If they continue to harass you may be entitled to damages under the Federal "fair debt collection act"
