I work in a office and not making much, How would I ask my manager for a raise? |
I'am a leasing agent, but do my managers work and do the assistant work, in top of that Iam the one that opens the office in the morning and do the coffee, make sure everything is clean and get the bathroom tissues if there is none, so in top of that I do a little of HOUSE KEEPING to. I need some suggestions. I've been working for the company for over 3 years. #1 do not tell them how you do all their work. Come out with a positive attitude about the working environment; let them know that you feel that your due a raise in pay. Keep everything positive, point out the good things that you do. Ask them if there is some reason that they can see that you should not be entitled to a wage adjustment. Do not bombard the manager first thing in the morning either, ask for a time to sit down and discuss something with him/her. Do not think that making coffee and putting tissues in should get you a raise either, that just makes you a nice person! Say, "I've been working here for x amount of years and I feel I do more than my share of work, so I think I am worth more than what my current pay is." you need to just come out and ask, if you dont feel comfortable doing that id advise you looked for a new job elsewhere. you need to feel comfortable where you work - its where you spend most of your time. plus it seems as thought they take advantage of you. move on and find some employer that appreciates the extensive qualities (experience) that you have to offer. good luck it sounds like your manager has gotten used to you. if you quit, how soon could he find someone like you? never! be aware of this fact and say. "I love my job, but I have new expenses coming up soon (make something up, school, rent, whatever) and may not be able to keep this job because of pay. would you consider increasing my salary or assigning me to do something in a different area that has a higher salary, like management?" just tell him you have been doing those work and ask him for a pay raise. ask nicely... depending how long you have been employed there are you over your probationary period ask for your evalution and let them know all that you are doing and tell them you want to advance if their is room to if not let them know that if you are going to do their work you want more pay or you might have to move on. dont be scared to ask because they arent going to fire you. |
