We live in state funded housing, is this legal? |
We live in "low income" or state funded houseing. We just recieved a letter stating that all renters need to get a photo ID from the office. Everyone over the age of 12 has to get this ID. Is this legal? Do I really have to have a "housing ID"? I don't understand why they are doing this? On our lease, it does say that we can have people stay with us for 30 consecutive days for every 1 year. How would they do this for those people? I am just wondering why they are doing this and is this legal? I noticed some people are remarking about jobs or taking from the government -I do have a job and so does my husband, but we cannot afford another place because we have three children and I am also a full time student. We are saving up to get a house rather than renting another place. I would never just accept help without working for it. Also, we signed the lease over a year and a half ago, but now they are just starting this ID thing. It is not in the lease at all. I don't mind having to get an ID, I am just not sure how this would help the housing authority in the long run. you probablly signed an agreement to live in the state funded housing. you must comply to anything on this agreement. Because state funded housing is paid for by tax payers who are really picky about how their money gets spent. To have people living off of the government who do not have a need is stealing and cheating from me and other tax payers. Yes they can do that. They also want to know who is there is who isn't I would imagine for security. If you ever want freedom, don't ask the government for anything. Yes it is legal. They will site security reasons, but it is more likely to be their way of making sure that no one is "gaming the system" by illegally subletting the apartment, or taking illegal roommates. It also gives the funding entity an accurate headcount to match to their records. They are doing this to keep your potential guests from getting over on the system. If it is subsidized, then they have the right to do it. They don't want you to move someone likes your boyfriend in because they feel that if he is in the picture, then you can afford regular housing on your own. You ask if this is legal? You are living in government housing, we the taxpayer have every right to ask you anything. If this bothers you go get a job and support yourself. Yes it is legal...since you live in the housing you have the choice to abide by the rules or move elsewhere....your right to privacy is balanced between the need for security and control over the premesis...here the government will argue we need to keep track of who is on the property and keep those we know cause trouble away...this will be upheld in any court in the country. |
