Do you think LBJ and Lady Bird should have been tried as war criminals?

I hear all this praise for Lady Bird and the news media saying we owe her a debt of gratitude. Well I would like to set the record straight when LBJ and Lady bird took office they were not rich when they left office they were very rich. Now how did they aquire this wealth well LBJ bought controlling interest in Brown and Root construction company for Lady Bird then proceeded to give them every contract imaginable in Viet Nam. He leased 1000s of acres of Land to raise cattle on and then sell it to the Military at 3 times the going price. He wouldnt let you come into his office unless you brought an envelope with plenty of cash in it. These 2 were probably the most corrupt people ever in the White House and the sad part of it is they aquired their wealth from the blood of american soldiers.

I'm a conservative and didn't care for a lot of LBJ's policies, but if you are going to put forth this kind of allegation, you need to back it up with some facts and with some links.

I agree with you 100%. To make matters even worse, they wouldn't let our own soldiers 'fight'. The longer things were dragged out, the more 'income' they made.

Friend, I have no doubt that serving as President certainly helped enrich LBJ and his family....since it seems to help everybody who holds the office. (Look at those $2 million a speech fees that Reagan got in Japan, and the $40 million that Clinton has made in the years following his last term.)
But you're wrong that LBJ was not rich when he took office. He was already a multimillionaire, having sold his stake in a communications holding company that included two big Austin radio stations and the first television station in the Austin area.
I agree that he was corrupt...and had he not pulled some political shenanigans (including voter fraud) to help carry Texas, he and JFK would have never been elected in 1960.

So what do you want to do? Drag out LBJ's remains and try him for being a war criminal? Lady Bird is dead and that's that. Shoulda, coulda, might have done so - no longer matters.

You will note most are from WWII and were Nazi's, Japanese, and a few French collaborators. The rest seem to be Ottoman Turks from WWI and Bosnian Serbs from their recent conflict. I can find NO AMERICANS and NO BRITISH politicians or soldiers. In other words to be tried for War crimes your country has to lose a war and then be forced from power. Therefore you question is MOOT. It would be the same as asking "should an American ever be pope?" or "should an American ever head the UN?" While the question itself might have merit it will never happen so asking it is a lesson in futility.

Looks like everyone has pretty well pointed out to you the answer to your question. Let me just say that LBJ tried to do the best he could for the country. Those were very hard times but you are probably too young to realize what we were going through. Don't worry. One day you will grow up. Just give it time. Until then, try not to chase too many black helicopters. LBJ and Lady Bird should not have been tried for any crimes because they did not commit any. Simple as that.

Be careful of who is in second place on anelection ticket. LBJ was not a war criminal just a local smalltime crook who di not alter his ways a bit when he became president. We got the boys from orange county with reagon and Dick and scooter with Bush. George doesn't steal because he is not smart enough.

War criminals? When LBJ first started into politics, his top priority was to bring electricity to his constituents in Texas. Yes, there was no electricity in rural Texas in those days! He worked long and hard to get things done for Texas and when he was through there was electricity there.

He became President under the most difficult circumstances. Both he and Lady Bird, brought our Nation out of the disaster with grace and strength. He did not ask to be President, he inherited the Presidency. He struggled through the losses of Viet Nam, and the White House tapes will tell you just how much the war cost him in grief and worry.

Neither Lyndon or Lady Bird were poor when they assumed the roles of President and first lady. How you can come up with what you wrote is beyond me.
