Floor lighting for apartment?

I am currently renting an apartment with an office and fairly large master bedroom. My only complaint is the lack of overhead lighting in these rooms. Since there is no possible way for me to add overhead lighting due to the construction/leasing agreement, can you recommend some effective (and reasonably priced) solutions? I am the type of person who likes a very well-lit house (not dim lighting b/c it makes me sleepy/tired)...

I agree. I need lots of light also.

Use floor lamps, table lamps and over head lighting. You can get overhead light fixtures that plug into an outlet (chandliers, wall scones, under cabinet lighting). Here in Canada Ikea has a wide assortment. I'm sure the US has a similar store.

I would go with a hanging Chandelier. That will brighten up the room definitely. They have some that you wire up and some that plug in. If you go to your nearest hardware store a rep can show you what i mean and how to hang it with out defaulting on your agreement. Here is a website to give you some insight on what styles are out there and price ranges too. http://www.homedepot.com/webapp/wcs/stor...

I really like some of the sites in Jaguar's answer! What lighting do you already have?
If you have bedside table lamps, buy two floor lamps that complement or coordinate for the two corners opposite the bed; or two table lamps and put them at either end of the dresser, especially if it is opposite the bed.
In the office, if you have a desk lamp, you could add two table lamps, and put them on your credenza, file cabinet, and bookshelves; or put two floor lamps in opposite corners of the room.
I would suggest you get all traditional or all contemporary, so you can mix/match whenever you move.
So, if you buy two floor lamps, and two table lamps; and put either set in either room, you are all set!
We bought floor lamps when we got married, and have needed them in most of the houses we lived in.
