What is the ideal time for giving someone space?

I had a miscarriage about a week ago. Obviously, this is a very difficult thing to go through both emotionally and physically.
I messaged my "best friend" and told her that I was having a miscarriage. When I messaged it, it had not happened yet but I knew what was going on (as I went to the doctor's office suffering from spotting, etc.)
I wanted her to be there for me when it happened.

She messaged back saying she won't call me because she wants to give me some space!!! I actually needed her by my side and did not need space. Two days later, she sent a message saying a prayer for me (and didn't even ask how I was doing). I messaged back saying thank you. And two days later, she messaged saying she wishes she was by my side. That's all I have ever heard from her since then.

It's been a week since the first message I sent.
What do you make out of her behavior?
I honestly feel that she did not support me the least bit.

Why don't you just call her and say you need her now.

Alot of people don't really know what to d. It is so sad. Forgive her if she didn't follow through like you wanted. Sometimes you just have to tell people what you are needing. Also, you are probably very sensitive right now- don't make a fight with your friend... just ask her to be there for you now.

I remember when I miscarried and I called my best friend... I didn't get the response I wanted either. I honestly think it is becasue people just don't know what to say to make it better... becasue there isn't anything. She was thinking about you to have sent you a prayer.

tell her what you need. she can't read your mind.
