Problem installing microsoft office...?

I am trying to install a newer version of microsoft office, and when it starts to set up it says it needs 1580mb free, so I need to free up space, or install to a different place. But the disk is only like 500 mb, and there is no option to install to a different place?? Any suggestions would help!

You need to remove things from your computer or install less. The disk is only 500mb but the files on it are compressed. You will need at least 1580mb on your dive to install it all. If you do a custom install you could decide to only install word or excell, which will use less space than installing all of office.
There are also lots of "optional" things that get installed with office that you may not need. Clipart and templates are included for all of office, but I never use them and they take alot of space.

Some of these answeres are thinking your 500mb disk is the hard drive, I think you mean the CD is 500mb. If your harddrive is only 500mb than yes you need a new harddrive.

you just don't have enough space for it. It must be an ancient pc if it's only got 500mb storage. Buy a new pc, really

I would first uninstall any programs you do not use anymore.
In the Control Panel, go to Add/Remove Programs.

Also download a program called CCleaner. You may have alot of temp files from programs and IE that can take up ALOT of space. CCleaner deletes all the "Crap."

These steps should free up the space you need to continue the installation.

Customize the installation and remove half of the junk which you will never use anyway, or choose to install to another disk (external drives which arent always connected arent a great idea) Try uninstalling the old office first to free up space, empty the recycle bin...in fact use ccleaner from www.ccleaner.com to clear up any junk files lying around
