How to deal with a co worker like this?

I guess the issue is how to just deal with a coworker who I share an office with. She is sometimes rude without even knowing it. When she sees clients I have to be stuck in the middle of their appointments, since we share an office space. There is no privacy. She is not too friendly with me and at times ignores me. I try to engage in conversation and it doesn't go very far. She in a way acts like she is better than me because her position is higher than me. She is also in the middle of a divorce so she acts like she is helpless having all these people calling her cell phone which makes me uncomfortable when she talks about it. She tells other people that she sometimes talks to herself because I"m quiet?? I don't get it! She just pretty much ignores me when I'm in the office. Is it just me or does she have a problem with me or am I overreacting? What to do?

To tell you the truth she is getting on my last nerve and makes me not want to be here. I feel socially neglected. We are the only two that work in this building. We drive back and forth to the other offices close by.

Perhaps, since there is no privacy and you must share a work space, she is really working out a problem in her head when it appears she's not busy doing something. People process things differently.

As to what you can do, invite her to have lunch with you or coffee or something. Try to get to know her outside of work. It's fair of you to say that you are feeling uncomfortable hearing about her personal life when she speaks with her friends at work. (This is very questionable behavior.)

It, honestly, sounds as though there is not too much communication going on between the two of you. It appears that each of you are doing things that are causing this problem. Sooner or later, it will come to a head and explode. It's always better to address the problem prior to it coming to this. Asking her if there are things that you are doing that are bothering her would be a good idea. Be open to what she has to say. Don't take offense. Expect the worst, but hope for the best. Think about it before you respond.

I wish you luck!

Ask your boss to move your office. This person is obviously extremely needy and poisonous - not someone I would be productive working around!

I work with 3 women just like that (but one is on the polite side) So I feel your pain! I'm trying to get out of there. I've been there a year and I can't take their petty **** anymore.
They're ALL divorced and bitter. I'm not allowed to use my ipod so I try yo keep my back to them and keep my nose in my work otherwise i get sucked up in their drama.
maybe you should try leaving too?

Do her like she does you....ignore her.....move your desk so that you are against her...bring you own radio or headset that you can listen to...anything to keep you distracted from wanting to make conversation to her.....leave her be......
