Battery light came on this morning as I parked at work?

I have a 2002 VW Golf turbo diesel with approx. 103,000 miles on it. This morning as I pulled into my parking space at the office, the battery light came on. Within the last 2 weeks I had my battery tested and it showed it was in very good condition, charge-wise, putting out 650 cranking amps.

Any idea what this light could be for? Thanks in advance!

Happily this happened right across from my office AND my repair shop. The repair guy says the alternator pulley has disintegrated and is basically gone. Thus, the belt is not working properly. Have the algternator checked.. A blown diode will create feed back and make the charge light come on... The alternator will still charge but it will be putting out AC voltage instead of the DC voltage need to charge the battery
Also have them check your belt,, if it is loose the alternator pulley will slip and quite charging for the time that it is slipping Good Luck

check the battery leads, clean them off to get a good contact to recharge the battery. then replace the belt. since it is 6 yrs old, i'd say it was the belt or alternator, i guess u probably have not had it replaced.

I would check the connection of the terminals to the battery for corrosion or what not. And maybe even Retest the battery. If it is cold outside that could also have negative effects.

Without looking at the vehicle and testing it, I'd be suspect of the alternator not putting out enough voltage or amperage, and not charging the battery. IF the battery is, in fact, good, then it's simply not getting charged. Good luck with it.

your best bet is to take it to the shop and have then put on the diagnostic scope , they will find out exactly what the problem is ,without wasting time or money hunting around for the problem, that's about $65.00, then have the shop fix it ,or a friend ..good luck.
