I'm losing Harddrive memory for no apparent reason.?

I just bought this Toshiba Satellite: 2GB ram, and 160 GB memory
but i'm just losing harddrive space out of nowhere. When i first got the computer, i had about 127 GB of free space on my c Drive out of 147 GB. now i only have 110 GB of memory on my C drive. I havent downloaded any music or videos or anything. ive uninstalled all of the trial bloatware. and ive installed Photoshop CS2 and 2003 microsoft office. Can somone tell me why this is happening or what i should do?

Oh i forgot it runs vista
and i downloaded AVG virus protection.
i havent copied any dvds.
I can just turn on the computer, check my email, turn it off , and turn it on the next day and a whole gig will go missing.

It seems correct. you'd be surprised how big those programs are. office is around 4gb, but CS2 is 10+ gb of data. so all seams well. you got a great laptop, don't worry about it ;)

Have you been copying DVDs? If you have, some copying programs require you to manually delete the copied files yourself. If you don't each movie you copied will take up about 4.5 GB of hard drive space.

If you are using windos xp then I am sure that your system restore is on. Go to the control panel, open it and go to the system in control panel classic mode and on top left you will see about system restore option click on it and turn off your system restore for all drives and your occuiped space will be returned to you when you switch off your system restore. The hard drive is not memory, it is just storage.

Installing software, such as CS2 and O2K3 will take some of the hard drive drive space. In addition using the laptop also eats up the hard drive space via the temporary files, not to mention the IE that takes a good chunk of the hard drive also.

With that said, the 17 GBs drop in the hard drive space seems excessive; are you sure that there's no other programs that you installed?
