Do you agree....is my mom being too selfish?

My parents have 5 children (me, 2 other girls, and 2 other boys) plus 2 coming soon. We right now live in a 4 bedroom house. My mom and dad in bedroom #1. I'm in bedroom #2. Then the boys are in the 3rd and the girls are in the 4th. We have a living room, kitchen, office, and a large living room.

I guess my mom made a quick decision during the pregancy to move into a bigger house. She went into the "rich" town (which is 2 towns over) and decided to buy a 7 bedroom house the most snotty (as in bratty, spoiled people) neighborhood around. It has 7 bedrooms (everyone gets their own room except the twins) with a bathroom in 2. Then there is 2 living rooms, huge playroom downstiars, a kitchen, a kitchentte, a "computer lab" (just like a room were putting like 4ish computers in), a party room (my dad had a TV and bar installed, and the rest is mostly empty space for lots of people), a home gym, and a jhuge pool and hotub outside. Most people would be thrilled, but I would rather live in my old house. What about you? Do you think this is a selfish? I think we should be donating money to starving kids. If they feel the need to have a big house just make a ton more bedrooms and adopt older child who nobody want. I think we should be making a difference in lives, not just improving ours. Do you agree?

That's true! I'm just so upset about leaving this town. It was a sudden decision. I'm on vacation in Mexico as we speak (laptop) with my family. It is so fun, but like I said it would be great for charity too.

Your family is expanding so you need a bigger house. Obviously. There are things YOU can do to help the less fortunate. Go work at a soup kitchen, donate time and read books at a library, work with under-privileged children, give away old clothes/etc. volunteer at an orphange or after-school program. Just because you think your parents are being selfish(which they are not, they are just trying to provide the best life for you and your siblings) doesn't mean there are not things you can do yourself.

As far as adopting, do you know how much that can cost? There are MANY things involved in doing so and your parents already have five children plus two more coming. That would be a huge undertaking on them.

When you get older you can look into adoption. I think it's great you're concerned about others but you do not need your family to start making a difference in lives, you can do so NOW.

I expect your parents worked hard for what they have and are entitled to figure out what they want from their lives. 7 people in a 4-bedroom house is certainly doable (we have 6 in a 4-bedroom), but it's also reasonable for people to want a little more space. When you are grown, you're entitled to make different decisions that better reflect your own values and priorities.

And are you sure they're not donating money to people who need it? Many well-off families do donate to charity. They might not do it in an ostentatious way that you necessarily know about.

They're your parents, it's their money, so they have the right to do with it as they please. Be happy that you have a larger living space, most people aren't fortunate enough to live in a 7 bedroom house, especially those with large families. I know you're going to miss your old friends and school but that's life, there's nothing you can do about it. If you want to make a difference in lives, do some volunteer work.
