I am interested in joining the submarine fleet of the Royal Navy?

After reading several questions on this site I am interested in joining the RN (Sub). I haven't approached my RN careers office yet, but I'd like a couple of little questions answered here if anyone is ex- or serving.

What training do you undergo to make sure you could cope with life on a submarine- that you won't be claustrophobic?

Secondly, how do you feel when you get shore leave after a long spell submerged? Do you get a little overwhelmed, like newly released prisoners do, or not? I have heard when you spend a long time in small spaces, you get scared of the open air for a little while afterwards?

Sensible answers only please- thank you!

Also does service in the sub fleet affect the way you react with friends/ family back home, and the extent to which you want your 'own space'?

Just left the service so might be able to help. You dont get any training to make sure your not claustrophobic but you do escape training and should get systems training on shore before going to sea although some times you get sent off straight away, if you cant handle it you will find out then.

When you get back its weird for the first few days but once you get caught up with whats been going on its fine. Never been scared of open air.

sensible answers only, this is yahoo Q/A you know, dont know the answer to your question but heres one for you, what submarine fleet,we dont even own a surface fleet anymore or do you not remember the Falklands
