Sharing a Home Office?

My wife and I both do separate lines of consulting work: I'm a writer, and she's in education.

We have a single room, with two desks (one for each of us) that we use as our home office. I'm reading conflicting statements on trying to decide the "exclusivity" of our home office space. Some say we can't share the room, but some seem to suggest that an office area can be considered " a space". So can't we say we split the room down the middle and that half is mine for my work, and that half is hers for her work? I mean, we don't share the others desk, files or computer, but we do run to the same printer. Would I have to actually partition off the room? We do actually have multiple doorways going onto each half of the room.

The important thing about exclusivity is that other than the business use of your home, there is no personal activity that goes on. That means no ironing board, no comfy couch, etc. That's the important thing to prove to the IRS if you were audited, is that the space was strictly for business use.

Exact answer: When you file taxes, and claim an at home office, it asks you for the demensions of the "space". Put just the demensions of your space when filing for you, the taxpayer, and her demensions for her space, the spouse.

More Than One Trade or Business
The same home office can be the principal place of business for two or more separate business activities. Whether your home office is the principal place of business for more than one business activity must be determined separately for each of your trade or business activities.

You must use the home office exclusively and regularly for one or more of the following purposes.
As the principal place of business for one or more of
your trades or businesses.
As a place to meet or deal with patients, clients or customers in the normal course of one or more of your trades or businesses.
If your home office is a separate structure, in connection with one or more of your trades or businesses.
You can use your office for more than one business but not for personal activities.
If you an employee any use of your office in connection with your employment must be for the convenience of the employer.

Read the requirements carefully as this is a huge red flag for audits.
