Graduate school but still don't know what to do!!?!?

I completed my undergrad. career in May 08.

I couldn't decide and went from learning astronomy to astrophysics to earth-space science and finishing with a degree in geography and environmental planning.

I now work as a GIS technician (entry level). The work is not that hard but the office is boring which is leading me to rethink what I want to do.

I don't want to do office work and I am good with people. Any ideas or suggestions that others have taken when switching careers or subjects from undergrad. to graduate school.

I really want to go back 2 school (graduate school) but I dont want to waste money on something that i wll find unfilling in a job.

Any sites , i would take the myer briggs test again but i can't find it anywhere for free online.

You can usually take such tests at your undergrad university's career center. The career center's facililities are still open to you, as an alumnus. Some unis will charge for certain things, but the cost usually isn't much, so you should ask them about this.

You've been working in GIS for less than a year, and you're not sure what you want to do next. My suggestion to you is to sit tight, and use this time to explore your options. See what jobs are like, if you're promoted in GIS. See what jobs are like at other GIS-related companies, via Monster.com. See what other career paths GIS can lead to. Then see if any of them interest you, and if so, what education and experience they require.

If none interest you, explore other options within the environmental field. Perhaps you could work for a national park, or something less office oriented?

But in order to move forward, you'll want to hold your current job for at least a year, and ideally, get promoted there, if you can. That'll look great to future employers, and to grad schools - even if the grad school is in another field.

Its really not hard to change fields when you enter grad school. You are required to have a minimum number of credits in the field you're entering. If you're coming from a related field or you minored in the field you are entering, you're usually fine, but graduate programs will often admit someone who is a few credits shy of the requirement if their application is otherwise strong.

Grad school is really worthwhile if its going to get you where you want to go, but its not the place to make career decisions. So, while you're working take the time to figure out what you want to do. You can take the Myers-Briggs at any college career center and its not very expensive. A real person goes over your results and brainstorms with you based on the results, so its much more valuable than taking the test online and just getting the results. Talk to people who do the things you're thinking about doing. I've found that most people are glad to help somebody who is considering entering the same field. Those contacts can also be very helpful when you do change fields. Good luck!
