An office just opened up in my building and I really want it!?

I am the Director of Advertising for the firm that I work for. One of the higher-ups is moving his office so hi current office space will soon be available. I need to convince the CEO that I need my own office. One reason is that I am on the phone a lot and it may distract others in my current shared office space. What are some other reasons that I would need my own office?

Well first, you say your phone calls are distracting to others in the shared space? No no no, say that you are finding it difficult to completely focus on your work to the degree you want to because of the consistant distraction around you. Make sure that he/she understands that it is all reasonable distraction, but that the phone calls, paper-shuffling, etc., keeps you from focusing 100% on what you are working on. Then say that you are sure all your calls are distracting to those around you as well. Even CEOs understand constant distraction.

Secondly, you are Director of Advertising. You are in need of some space to be creative. How can you brainstorm, research, get creative with no real privacy, no ability to close your door to the world on occasion, or the ability to surround yourself with items that inspire or motivate you? A room full of plants, a water fountain on your desk, a comfy chair to rest in get out of your head for a few minutes, a bookcase for your magazines and books as reference...etc

Thirdly, you are DIRECTOR of Advertising. By the time you hit the Director level you really should have your own office. Depending on how long you have been there you could certainly pull seniority.

Lastly, I'm sure as an advertising person you have lots of paperwork, samples, brochures, etc. You need a great amount of space for all of it. Using a shared space means you can't keep as much of it as you would like in order to keep abreast of what others are doing, trends in advertising and marketing, etc.

Be creative about your approach. It's hard to give more solid ideas without more info about your position, your CEO, etc, but I hope this helps get you started.
