Can anyone give me some feng shui advice? How would I arrange my office in order to be able to work without?

feeling creepy or anxious. I can not use candles because they will not allow candles in our building. We have to also set up the office in order for our safety in case we need to make a quick exit (my back is to the door) I just feel like everything is off and I cant seem to get comfortable in that office space. Its a large office and I like the privacy - I just feel weird. Any help would be appreciated. Thanks

Hatir Ba Loon, you are right. I do think that having my back to the door is part of the uneasiness. I have had a male co worker sneak up on me and tell me that it is very unsafe to have the office set up that way, but due to the computer/phone outlets and the set up of the room it hard to move the desk around. My office is what used to be a receptionist area for a law firm and there is an empty office which used to be a waiting area right in front of my office and there is a door and a sliding glass window between my office and the "waiting area" no one uses that door to come in to the building- it is always locked. It sort of a weird set up.

The first thought I had was to put a small, inconspicuous mirror on your desk so that you are able to see behind you at all times. Also, if no one uses the doors in front of you and it feels kind of weird, if allowed, I would suggest a nice tall ficus plant to put there. I would get a fairly good size smoky quartz crystal for your desk - this is excellent at absorbing all kinds of negativity, both psychic and electrical and could be disguised as a 'paperweight'. These should give you some sense of comfort and security.

since i cant see the room to see how it's set up...

take a large piece of paper and make draw the room, then place furniture ...desk, chair etc ..where you'd like them to go, you can change them around much as you want, then you can actually decorate the room based on your drawing (take measurements too)...plants bring lots of nature and peace to a room, try ivy or a hanging basket.

Just to point this out, while you were not very specific on the room, other than it's large and private, you did make a point of mentioning that "(my back is to the door)". Mayhap this could be part of the source of the unease.

The door, the only entrance to a private room,is at your back. You can't see who is there, without turning around, and you can't just glance up and see the door. Perhaps subconsciously, part of the unease is coming from an awareness that, someone could open the door, and sneak in, and you might not even know they are doing it. It could be just a feeling of unease from feeling exposed or vulnerable.

Could you turn the desk so maybe you face the door, or, if not, in such a way that the door is now within at least the side of your vision, just so that if it opens you would notice it...maybe this alone would dispel some of the unease.

Our survival instincts are just that, instinctive, and, it may just be easier to work with it, than just to try to ignore it...

Move the furniture around and feel the rightness or wrongness of the position yourself, You will know if it either does not look right or feel right. Sit in the chair in different positions and see where you are most comfortable. Position filing cabinets, pictures, plants and other things doing the same thing, do not despair if it does not work for everything the same day. When you are working , you will automatically move things where they feel more comfortable to you.

i think you are misunderstanding what fengshui is about. the purpose of fengshui is either increase wealth or improve health. it does not make you feel good with your environment. and most fengshui'd houses actually can make you feel weird in most occasions.

fengshui is not a decorating style nor is it about clearing your space. it is about optimizing the energies in your house and use these to improve or make life easier. it is not about making an ambient atmosphere.
