Is it rude to tell someone to give you your personal space?

A girl I work with is hovers over me all day! she reaches for things in front of me instead of saying excuse me or can you get me that. She leans over my shoulder and watches me do things. she follows me around the office. I am very into my personal space. I don't want to be rude but I have to tell her to back away from me and respect my personal space. How can i tell her nicely?

Wow if doesn't sound like almost the same as something I went through once at work, although I think my experience was worse,I mean this girl even started sending me personal emails that were all confusing talking about how I was hurting her feelings. Look you're going to have to tell her how it is and were to go in a nice and professional way and move on how she takes it is on her because in the end it's about you, as long as you dot your I's and cross your T's while talking to her to ensure you won't be called into the boss's office then go for it, I personally felt and still feel so much better now that I have my personal space back and that this girl who I did nothing for that called me her BIG sister has finally left me alone, I mean this girl used to come every morning and hug me for no reason, I'm so glad!

no u r just being honest

take her to lunch one day. and tell her look.you're a great person and all.but at work i need my persaonal space.so could you please not hover over me all day long.so i can get my work done and go home.

no ever on needs there personal space so no it is not rude to tell can you please back up and give me my personal space

pick me as best answer

no it wouldn't be rude at all. sometimes you just have to be firm and tell those co-workers to ease back a tad so you can be more productive.
I ask her so tell me what perfume we wearing today - that would be a good breaking the ice statement. I would treat it with kid gloves and see if she can catch on and if that failed I turn up the heat a notch. good luck
