How to tell Boss I want my own office?

Our office is moving to a bigger space with 2 floors. Originally i was told i would have my own office, but now my boss told me i will still have to share an office with the loud woman i work with. I have told him how i felt, so can i talk to the pres. of the co.? Is this a good thing to say? if not what should i say? or should i leave it alone?

Can I talk to you in private when you have some free time?
Thanks.
I know we are moving in January, and while I don鈥檛 know much about how the office will be set up, bob informed me that I will basically have the same set up, in reverse. I was just wondering, since we will have a lot more room, if sue could have the office and I could have my own space, even if it were a cube, if that鈥檚 convenient and there is enough room for everyone. I have been here for a very long time and would really like to be able to concentrate on my job with minimal distractions. I respect her a great deal, but she can be very loud and intrusive at times.

This is good. You aren't sounding like a complainer. You are telling the truth and how it affects your ability to do your job.
Another thing, you have nothing to lose by speaking up, as long as you do it with a calm, clear, attitude that makes it more about getting your job done well than about what a pain the in
bum this co-worker is.

That sounds ok to me, what you have written. But I would not make it a habit of overstepping your boss. That could create some tension there, if they think that if you dont get your way you'll just go to the next person.

But I would first ask your boss one more time and maybe stress how important it would be to you to have a bit of quiet and how much more productive you would be with it. And like you said, you dont really need an office, just a space or cube to yourself. If nothing comes up there, either you dont get an answer or you dont get a valid reason for why you could not have a small space of your own ("just because" is not a reason), then i would maybe consider going up the ladder. Just remember to tread carefully and stress to whomever you go to that you're not trying to step around you're boss's authority, you are just trying to create a more productive work environment, and this would help you.

Good Luck.

Good job, Also add that you take your work very seriously and
thank him for consider resolving this issue in a professional manner.

I would leave off the part about her being "very loud and intrusive at times", as that may get your boss in trouble for not dealing with her on that matter.

Also, I would speak to your boss again before going to HIS boss! If you side-step him on this, he probably won't be happy. He may have spoken about you having your own office before he knew it to be fact, and he may not have the power to change things now.

I would just talk to him again first. Say something like, "So, what happened to me having my own office?" Keep your tone light and airy.

I would think the company president has more to worry about than you having your own office, so I, personally, wouldn't bother him with this.
