MS Word 2000: How do I get rid of those dumb paragraph and space markings? Please help!?

I went to Format to change my Font- and I think I accidentally clicked on the box that says "Hidden". When I went back to my draft, I saw those awful paragraph and space markings all over it. Then, the Office Assistant popped up and told me that I have the markings (as if I couldn't see) and the only button available for me to click was "okay"- so I couldn't even cancel the stupid markings.

Firstly, I don't understand how anything having to do with Font will cause me to have the markings, and second, how can I get rid of these blasted things?

Please help- they're making me crazy, because they're hard to read around.

Thank you!

AHA! Thank you, Carella!!!!!!!!!!

The easiest way to make them appear/disappear is the keyboard shortcut (i'm addicted to keyboard shortcuts!) of:

simultaneously holding Cntrl Shift and then pressing the 8 or * key. This will toggle back and forth!!

Go to your Word toolbar (at the top),,,,move your mouse cursor slowly after each one. When you come to one that says "Show/Hide", click on it and that should remove those markings.

If, however, it isn't in your toolbar, you can do a search again regarding "Show/Hide" because that's the name for them.

Good luck!

select the entire paragraph, then right click on the highlighted portion, choose "paragraph" there you can set line spacing and other features.

In Tools / Options , you have a "Formatting Mark" block, where you can un-tick the Tab and Spaces options...
