How can I create a tiny haven for myself? |
We have no space. No wall space. No storage space. No office space. Just clutter and loud tv noise. I want to set up a tiny sacred space for myself to give me some solitude and tranquility. My very own retreat at home. Other than hiding in the tiny postage-stamp-sized bathroom or putting the blankets over my head, I have no space. Any ideas? Illusions of space? Secret to making space in a jiffy? Any response is appreciated! Believe it or not, I once made a private space in a hall closet (no, not a walk-in). Of course I could only sit half-way in it, but I put shelves and a chair in there and sort of decorated the wall with pictures and plaques that had meaning for me. At the time, my 3 children were quite young, so even that little bit of private space that was just mine was significant. If you don't have a spare closet, try painting a part of a wall, or a corner or inside a bookcase, with colors that no one else likes, just you. Put your own private things there: pictures, sayings, crafts. If I were really desperate, I would buy a couple of those curtain rods that swing out, and a couple of panels of inexpensive curtains or fabric, and make a small triangle shaped space out of any corner. Experiment! put up a tent outside with an extesion cord for conveniences. You could try one of those 3 paneled screens in soothing colors and patterns. If you can make a small space in a corner or near a window, you could set up your favorite chair, possibly with a small table, and use the screen to block out the clutter and TV. Some earphones and your favorite music might help with the noise. I don't know the size of your place, but although I have a fairly decent sized home, there's NEVER a quiet place (except here, @ 1:30 am...lol), but I created my "spot" in the corner of my livingroom with my chaise lounge, but you could use a small loveseat, or whatever. Let it be known that this is YOUR personal spot, 7 NO one else is to sit there! Put a lot of throw pillows, a soft blankie & throw ia a must! Put your own "style" to it, have a small table w/your own stuff on it, a small basket w/your book ,journal, small clock,notepads,cute/ goofy pens, book of scriptures, flowers, footies, lotion, poems, whatever makes you feel relaxed & comfy! and buy some of those cheap foam earplugs @ the dollar store (or if you have a personal cd player),you could have a cd of nature sounds to drown out the chaos around you! I hope you can do this, it has changed my attitude completely! (and a wine cooler don't hurt either ;-) I wish you peace & tranquility in your den of inequity ;-) |
