How should I respond to this comment I get all the time? It's getting old!? |
I moved into an office space about a year ago and it's approximately 11 feet by 11 feet...a decent size. I work in a department of about 45 people, all of whom choose to decorate their workspaces (some have offices, others have cubicles) with personal items such as knick knacks, pictures, plants, etc. I have chosen not to decorate at all and only have work-related items on my desk, walls, and shelves. Almost every day someone comes in and comments about how bare the room is and how I should put something on the wall. There are two reasons I do not: I don't want anything I own to get stolen and I prefer to leave my workplace clutter-free. I have told people many times that I simply like things clean and don't have any intentions of adding decor, but I'm really getting tired of their comments. I can only be asked the same question so many times before it starts getting to me. I've even heard the comments/questions from the same people multiple times. I'm going crazy! Suggestions? Let me recommend hanging 1 piece of decor in your space. A picture frame with the following: post just one piece of decor, a sign where everyone will see it on their way into your cubicle, it should say Post a sign where people can plainly see it. It should go along the lines of "If I wanted to decorate my cubicle I would. I choose not to for personal reasons. Please do not make comments about it or ask questions. I can clearly see my walls are bare and I plan to keep it that way. If you still choose to ask questions or make comments about it, I will proceed to staple your mouth shut with my stapler. Have an AWESOME day!" Yeah, thats how I am, I am just not a terribly personal person at work. I like my knick knacks and pics and stuff to decorate my home, not where I spend time making money...I don't know if there is anything you can do about that, people are like that..."I like to decorate, why don't you???" they're just making chit chat with you... i think you should lighten up a bit! 2 things, Post a sign that says Decor-free is Zen |
