I've lost all motivation... all I want to do is not work and do nothing?

Like Peter in Office Space, its cometo a point where I just hate working.. at first I thought maybe it was the job I am in but the more i thought about it the more I realized that its not the job, its work itself.. anyone else go through this? Is it just the age thing? i'm 30.

I have a great life out of work, I have tons of great friends a young beautiful wife.. the only problem is work..

This is a symptom of depression, so that's one possibility.

Another possibility is you've become focused on extrinsic reasons for doing your job (money, prestige) instead of intrinsic reasons (like the challenge, like the people, etc.) Intrinsic motivation is much more powerful (it's what keeps people devoted to their hobbies without getting paid for their hobbies).

Unless you're seriously depressed, I bet there are some kinds of work you like to do. Do you work hard to advance in video games? Or to have a beautiful garden? Or to reach exercise goals? Obviously I don't know what your interests are, but if you're working hard at those, then you're not depressed; there's something about your job that isn't right for you.

I am going through this right now. Its a layer of depression.
I am taking lexapro for the time being and making myself get out and work out.

Sometimes we all feel like this. I do not mean this bad but maybe some counseling would help. I feel that it might have something to do with age and maybe how long you have been working. Try talking to someone maybe there is an underlying problem.

I think its just age.....maybe you should make sure to give yourself time to go out with different people....friends from work, out of work.....meet new friends. Anything to liven up your week. Work is just work....but you need to have a life outside of work in order to not get too bored. Get out and have some fun!!! Find a cool new hobbie.....anything will help.

A client asked my boss how many people worked here.
My boss replied, "oh, about half of them.'

i'm 30, and i don't work, and haven't done much work at all during my life. the jobs i have had include telemarketing jobs, that i often hated. i tried using antidepressants, tried going to work stoned on pot, drunk ... in the end i decided, that work is for the birds

if you are unhappy with your job, you might want to start looking at what it is in life you really love doing, and find a career related to it. even if it means a cut in pay, you will be happier if you have a job that you look forward to going to everyday. it you love what you do it may not seem like work.
