How do you operate an electric floor buffer?

I need to know how to operate an electric floor buffer for a large office space.

Operating a floor buffer is essentially the same as a lawnmower, but with one big difference. A floor buffer's handle needs to be held very level, since it is balanced on the buffing pad and any tiny up or down variance will cause it to go caroming off of things with you dragging along behind.

Squeeze the handle very gently at first, so you can get it going at a lower rate of speed and find the "sweet spot". Once the brush/pad is spinning, lift the handle GENTLY, and the front edge will start to pull the whole buffer to the right in a nice arc. Pushing down on the handle will cause it to swing left.

With a little practice, you'll leave nice overlapping "swoops" in the wax or polish.

Okay, I've done that...start on low (you, of course will have put on the right pad, depending if you're just buffing the top layer, or stripping the floor) Practice in a hall way or area that is relatively clear of obstacles until you can control the machine. At first, you will find the machine might "get away from you" but there are safety features that will stop the machine. You will find that pressing on one side will turn it easily, and you won't have to fight the machine at all.
