High paying medical careers other than doctor/dentist? |
doctor, dentist, pharmacist, anesthesiologist, pa ... all great, but all require a lot of school. i'm now 32 years old. i have a b.a. in business from the late 90s from a good school. i was thinking about going for my mba ... but ... i hate "office space". so i'm considering alternatives. what other medical careers are there (2 years school at most) that are high paying? there are a lot of medical vocational schools out there, and most offer a two year program, etc ... stuff like that. i like helping people, especially the elderly, so i'm thinking this may be a better long term fit than suits and endless meetings. i just want something steady, in-demand, rewarding, and preferably high paying. nursing is probably the best option, but i somehow can't get over the murse stigma. probably my own hang up i should get over. any suggestions on alternatives? thanks! A friend of mine became a physical therapist after two years of schooling it was expensive though but he expects to make about 70k. physical therapist Consider physical therapist or respiratory therapist. Both pay really well and don't take as much schooling as the others you listed. There is also radiology tech and you might not like the idea of being a nurse but a surgical technician is a short stint and can make big bucks. I do not know what is wrong with being a male nurse. Male nurses are in high depmand. If you like working with the elderly you should be a geriatric nurse. nurses are underpaid dude however it is in high demand and you can travel all over the world to get a job. but i'm not a nurse. two year degrees in nursing. I live in the St Paul/Minneapolis area. Most county and public hospitals pay about 20 dollars an hour for LPN's to start. Private sector employers pay about the same. Start there, then get a four year degree in nursing. Public Health Nurses and Registered nurses hired by Ramsey County make 25 dollars an hour to start. AND THEY ARE IN HIGH DEMAND. Have you thought about medical sales? Nursing is an excellent career. My husband is a RN, works in the recovery room with 4 other guys the rest female. He has also worked in Surgical Intensive Care Unit at our local hospital. Worked with a bunch of guys and girls. I'm a recruiter in the medical device industry. I suggest that you go for a certification in cardiology (Cardiovascular Technician) or Ultrasound. Both are in high demand. Both make close to 90K. However, with a business degree, why not pursue medical sales. If you are not a sales person, try getting the certifications, and then go into clinical application positions in medical devices. That pay range is 80-125K. Lots of travel. |
