Need Advice about Personal Space at Work?

I work in a one person office, and I was out yesterday. My boss did come in to work this office yesterday while I was out, and I knew that. I don't like this woman to begin with because not only is she completely STUPID but I always felt I couldn't trust her. Anyway, I work in a strip center where other businesses can see into my business. Another employee in another business told me that he had seen my boss digging all through my desk like she was trying to find something. He said she went through the ENTIRE office and was about tearing up everything in my desk, looking though my things. I do understand that this is my company's property and I don't have anything in my desk to get me in trouble anyway, but I feel very violated and offended by this act. Does anyone have any advice or sneaky ways to get back at this evil act? I am about to resign this position anyway to relocate...but any advice on how to get back at this "person"?

Try not to let it get to you, but it might be a good time to update your resume and look around. Working for someone like that isn't going to get any better. She may be technically within her rights, but it's not good manners, to say the least.

Report the incident to your HR or employee representative. Were any of your personal items missing or damaged? Then report it as theft or property damage.

Draw a caricature of her depicting her as Satan. Leave it on your desk for her to find when pulling your things. Deny any involvement with it when questioned.

You dont want to "get back" at this person. Keep doing your job, and do it well until the time comes to resign. You never know when you might need to use this person as a reference for another position.

welcome to the real world.
you sold your body time spirit and knowledge to this company/person. you have no real personal space unless stated legally.
get ready for your up coming move.
As for Getting Back, why lower yourself to their level and waste your energy and mental health on them.
learn to leave trash behind , don't carry it with you.

I had a boss like this once. Aggravating isn't it? The best revenge is not to have the person feel like you are out for revenge. Ever hear the phrase, kill them with kindness? As long as you don't have anything that is not allowed in the office in your desk, I would be the bigger person and overlook it. Or [perhaps if you notice she is getting that 'look' in her eye meaning she wants to go through your desk, simply ask her what she is looking for and how you can help her. Either way, best of luck to you.

You can say to her, I heard you were looking through my desk while when I was out. Did you find everything you needed? Can Is there anything else I can help you find? She will be shocked that you confronted her. Be cool about it.

It sounds as though she was looking for something - if she had a complaint I guess it would be about how you organise things so that they can be found in your absence. But I guess there's no need to raise that if she doesn't. Otherwise, you are right when you acknowledge that the desk and its contents are basically there for the benefit of the company, what your boss does with them while you are away or out is not your business unless it leads to her raising something with you or affects your work, so forget about it. It sounds as though you are right to be thinking about leaving, though.
