How do I increase word spacing in Microsoft Word 2007?

How do I double space the WORDS in a Word 2007 document?

If the original text is: This is a line.
The new text should read: This is a line.

Microsoft has already killed productivity by introducing the highly irritating and counter-intuitive ribbon and discarding the menu bar. After I found where the help option was (it was tucked away in a corner), I searched using the word "spacing" as the search string. This is what it returned:


->Adjust the spacing between a list bullet or number and the text
->Adjust the spaces between lines or paragraphs
->Change the spaces between text
->Double-space the lines in a document
->Font
->Show or hide drawing gridlines

....And more useless results.

Naturally, I chose the third option, but it redirected me to option 1. None of these options tell me how to do what I want. Anybody out there who has crept into every redesigned corner of Office 2007, please tell me.

Try Format/Font and select the tab that says character spacing.

Sorry, but I don't think there is such a function, or ever has been, in any version of Word I've used (since Word 6).

Help in most programs would be a laugh if you were somehow in the mood to laugh at that moment. Microsoft's no exception.
