What's a good way to section off part of a room so it is private enough to be used as a bedroom? |
My mom and I are temporarily moving into a basement apartment that only has one small bedroom. Privacy is much more of a concern for me than for her, so I'm taking over the bedroom. However, it would still be nice to be able to put up some kind of wall or barrier in the living room/common area of the apartment to give my mom some privacy while she is sleeping or wants to be alone. something crazy--thank you for the input, but me having the bedroom is a better fit for our current situation. I have bipolar disorder and the privacy is helpful to my mental health, but my mom is very open and doesn't mind having a bedroom in the living room :) You can get tall bookcases, three or four of them standing side by side will make a pretty good wall and provide a place to store things also. A couple could face out into the living area and a couple into her bed area. You can get fiber board bookcases that aren't too expensive, but they are good and heavy and will last for quite a long time. They can also go with you when you move as they are not a permanent fixture. I have some I have used for years. What about those asian folding dividers? They are inexpensive and can be very attractive. Try looking for cheap shoji screens or room dividers are you kidding me? GIVE YOUR MOM THE BEDROOM!!!!! You should make wall dividers, they are like folding screens. Here is an idea: You could use plywood, and hinge the pieces together like a fan, back, forth, back, forth. Then, you could get some inexpensive fabric from Walmart and glue/staple gun it onto the folding screen. You can get folding screens, or it wouldn't be hard to make one out of 2 X 4's, hinges, and then cover the frame with some pretty fabric on both sides. Hang some stylish/pretty curtains from the ceiling with some tacs or nails-- attach some pretty ribbon to the ceiling and the curtains. Get an overhead track attached and add curtains like they do in the hospitals. |
