Help on Designing my Room? |
i have a small bedroom (it was suppose 2 b an office) and i dont know how i could design it so i have more space 2 play my instruments (violin, drums and cello) or even 2 play with my dogs.If anyone could help with tips they used on color designs 2 make it look bigger or a way the bed should go wutever i would b xtremely greatful. Purchase hooks like the kind you find in music stores that will allow you to hang your instruments. This will save space as well as decorate your walls. Just make sure you hang them high enough not to be hit by your dogs wagging tail. Sofa beds don't tend to be very comfortable, but a futon can be purchased and can provide a comfortable place to sleep. Your room color should complement you musical instruments which are generally wood colored. Perhaps a navajo white is a good choice. As for the dogs (you did say dogS) there's not much chance you're all ever going to be really comfortable playing in there together. I suggest you take them outside to play. Bedrooms are for quiet places, when you're dogs are there they should be trained to relax and enjoy that quiet time with you. 1)use a sofa bed(you know the kind that is a sofa but you can pull it into a bed?) Sell your bed and buy a futon. It'll fold up and give you extra space. make you bed into a daybed...a cream or wheat color would work...keep it simple...the intstruments can be hung on the walls can be a form of art...dogs have two large pillows so they can rest not play...bring color into your room with pillows on you bed line up to form back cushions...the bed would go gainst a wall...can get a desk that leans up againt the wall (that will save space..) window coverings try bamboo shades..good luck and have fun with it... The other answers are good for saving space, but to make it appear larger...paint the walls and ceiling the same color and use lots of mirrors and lights. Lighter colors work best, but you should pick a color you really like so that you enjoy the room. Shelves built around the top of a room (say just above "head high") will give you storage but not take up any floor space.(the shelves should also be the wall color as not to break up the room) My son got stuck with the small bedroom once, so I had my carpenter build him a bed frame (twin size) that put the matress high up near the ceiling. (like a bunk bed without the lower bunk.) We painted the frame, a lean-too ladder, the walls and ceiling a very light greyish blue. Mono-tone light color makes a small space look larger. We then were able to fit a small sleeper sofa (or you could use a futon) in the space under the bed frame for seating or over-night company when needed. We took out the ceiling fan and put up a ceiling mounted light fixture (don't use any that hang down into the space.) For extra light, we put a tall directional standing lamp in each corner of the room across from the bed. (we had them from another room so we painted them just a little darker than the room paint. Then for a desk/ workspace, we attached a simple rectangular piece of plywood to the wall across from the bed with henges and two pieces of 2x4 for legs with henges attached to the front of the rectangular piece. (again painted the same color as the room.) Then we fastened a loop of sailing rope to the front of the desk and a hook high up on the wall, so you could lift the rope and make the whole desk lift up and fold to the wall. This gave him room if he needed to use the fold out sofa, or just more floor space. He even kept his bike in there, hung on a bike hook screwed into one of the ceiling cross beams next to the far wall. For clothes and storage we bought one of those tall streamline closet units from IKEA. Any color in the room was from throw pillows and his crazy posters. It worked really well and he had a space that was unique. Tip: In a small room with a low ceiling, hang pictures or art work about a foot higher than you would in a standard room. It makes the space appear taller and wider. You can then add accessories to fit your personality or reflect your hobbies. Keep as much as you can off the floor (clothes, sporting equipment, dark throw rugs...)because anything on the floor attracts the eye down and will make the space look shorter and less spacious. saw on a TV home improvement show where they replaced the old closet door(s) with mirrored door(s)....they make the room appear larger due to the relection from the mirror Ikea has loft beds for space/items underneath. |
