ok this is my first time writting a book so dont be cruel
tell me if this is good I know my grammer isnt great and when the charectors talk I need more quotatins marks and stuff but ill fix it later. So ok here it is and Please be honest I know some parts are lame but be nice
Chapter 1
It all started like in many books in the beginning. And like in most books their was a problem. Cystance had gone into war with Freymount . Many souls had been lost and had had lasted many years. The purpose had been lost and the decades of fighting had turned into a feud. Towns were destroyed and homes were burned. Freymount needed help if they were to defeat Cystance. Help from a new age鈥?br>
Kanin woke up in the early dusk. He walked up to the top of the ledge. The morning always seemed the best place for thinking. No events that would take place later in the day could bother him. He lay down and looked up at the sky. It was sill dark yet he could here the traces of birds and animals in the woods.
And thought how easy it must be for them. No worries. No problems. Whereas he apprenticed to one of the greatest rangers Ariawin it wasn鈥檛 always easy. People expected greatness from him. His master had saved the king decades ago from Freymount鈥檚 enemy Cystance. The king had been saved, but a war had been started, now with him almost sixteen people were counting on him.
Ariawin had trained him for now more then seven years. In that time he had memorized maps, mastered the bow, and could go anywhere unseen. Yet he lacked a certain necessary quality of a ranger. Courage. Bravery. He had only been in the middle of a battle a few times, but in those few times he had failed miserably. His master thought it was his fault and had doubled is training, but if he ever knew the truth鈥hat his apprentice was a coward. Oh boy.
He loved his master and looked up to him, but he had a temper. And when he lost it things got bad.
Kanir headed back to there cottage by now Ariawin would be looking for him. So with a some-what clear mind he walked back.
鈥?Where have you been鈥?his master inquired? 鈥淥ut walking鈥?he replied. 鈥淵ou鈥檝e been doing that a lot lately鈥?he stated. 鈥淵eah鈥ell it calms me鈥? 鈥淐alms you鈥?. 鈥淵eah a lots on my mind鈥? 鈥?Kanir don鈥檛 worry your only fifth teen no ones perfect鈥?Ariawin said reaching for his bow. 鈥?You are鈥?the apprentice smiled slyly. 鈥?No鈥o Kanir believe me I鈥檓 not he sighed. Far, far from it he said as he put his cloak on.鈥?Where are you going鈥? 鈥淭he king needs to go over some new battle plans, so I鈥檒l be gone most the day鈥?鈥?Can I have the day off then鈥? 鈥淵es yes I suppose, but be back by ten, we have a lot of training ahead of us鈥?the master replied. 鈥淭hank you I promise I won鈥檛 be late the apprentice said in a daze. Ariawin just nodded and walked out the door.
Kanin couldn鈥檛 believe it. It was rare for an apprentice to ever get a day off. He had asked many times, but e rarely got it. This was the third time this year! Kanir considered his options and decided to head to town. He went o his room to get his sack of coins e earned from random tasks like capturing a lost pig or horse. Then he saddled up his horse and headed to town.
Chapter 2
Once in town Idecided to go to his friends Evelyn鈥檚 house. Evelyn was a diplomat so besides doing mainly paperwork as an apprentice there wasn鈥檛 much to do. So she pretty much had time to spare. Too much.
I reached her house. Now most masters had one or two apprentices at a time, but diplomats or at least her master had many. So each pair of girls had their own room. So unlike most people who knocked on the main door I liked to climb through the window. He had been doing this s茅ance he was eight. So it was tradition, but it also annoyed her roommate, which was fun. Once her master caught him doing it and gave him this whole speech about invasion of privacy and this being a girl鈥檚 institute. So she had tried to make climbing through the window impossible. First it was a simple lock, I picked it. Then it was a thorn bush, but being a ranger I鈥檝e had worse. There were also a few other things, but nothing that stopped me eventually she gave up.
I climbed in. Evelyan was reading at her desk. I creped up next her and put my hands over her eyes. 鈥淕uess who鈥?I whispered.
鈥淗mmm鈥he thought is it Kanin鈥? 鈥淣ope it鈥檚 the king鈥?I could almost feel her smile. 鈥淥h.your majesty what brings you here鈥? She asked. A pretty girl I replied and showed her some flowers I picked from the thorn bush. 鈥淎h how nice of you鈥?she said. 鈥淚 know I turned to the other side of the room where her roommate Clarisse was. 鈥淔or you鈥?and handed her the flowers.
鈥淎hh鈥? How nice she said sarcastically. 鈥淥k cut the crap Kanin give me one reason I shouldn鈥檛 go tell are headmaster you鈥檙e here? She asked. You know she hates you she added.鈥?Yeah I know鈥?I replied and the answer to your question is maybe Evelyan doesn鈥檛 want me to go鈥? 鈥淓velyan do you want him here鈥?she asked. 鈥淵es Clarisse鈥?she nodded. 鈥淔ine, whatever I鈥檓 going next door鈥?Clarisse snapped at me 鈥淚鈥檒l miss you鈥?I told her sarcastically. Se gave me an evil look and left.
鈥淎re you two ever going to get along鈥?Evelyan asked. 鈥楴ope鈥?I replied. Oh, well it鈥檚 nice to see you where鈥檝e you been lately I miss you鈥?she asked. 鈥淎riawins been making me practice more and stuff exams are next month鈥? There鈥檚 exams for ranges she asked. Unfortunately I answered. 鈥淪o what do you want to do鈥?she asked? 鈥淲ant to tick of your master鈥?I asked? 鈥漌hy not鈥?br>
We walked out into the hallway and onto the kitchen. After breakfast and another tour around the institute I was feeling disappointed. 鈥淲here is she鈥? I asked. 鈥?I鈥檝e been here two hours and she still hasn鈥檛 kicked me out I鈥檓 disappointed this isn鈥檛 like her鈥?I said. She giggled 鈥渨ait she鈥檚 coming鈥?
鈥淎lyssa how good to see you鈥? 鈥淜anin its Lady Alyssa to you and did I not forbid you over here鈥?she snapped at me. 鈥?Why George your right I said sarcastically I plum forgot sorry miss I鈥檒l be leaving you now鈥?I said as I bowed to her. 鈥淲hy young man wait till I tell your master鈥? I ignored her. 鈥淏ye Eve bye Alyssa鈥? I headed for the door and looked back for one last look. Evelyan was laughing her head off and Lady Alyssa was giving me an evil look worse then Clarisse.
Chapter 3
After getting kicked out the day was pretty boring. Whet around town bought a drink. Then I decided to go to the market to see about a new pair of boots. I went over to look at the price. 鈥?0 coins鈥?I yelled! 鈥淓xcuse me Sir鈥?I tapped the seller on the shoulder. 鈥淚s there way you can lower the price鈥?鈥淪orry kid鈥?he said. 鈥淭he price tag is final鈥? 鈥淔ine I sighed and headed back cause only a upper class person could afford thoughts.
I started to head to a different stand when I accidentally bumped into Merlion the kings wizard. Or more like knocked over. 鈥淚 am so sorry sir鈥?I said as I helped him up 鈥淲ell young man you should be more careful nest time you鈥is voice trailed off why if it isn鈥檛 Kanin! He said very cheerfully. Aria win鈥檚 apprentice. 鈥淵eah I鈥檓 sorry sir鈥?鈥淥h no problem my you have gotten tall, what brings you here this fine day鈥? 鈥淲ell, I had the day off and I thought I鈥檇 come into town鈥? 鈥淎hh what were you looking at over there at that stand鈥? He pointed to the stand with the boots. Gosh he鈥檚 nosy I thought. But instead I said 鈥淥h...I was looking at some boots but they were way too expensive鈥?I told him.
鈥淗ow much鈥?he asked. 鈥淓xcuse me sir, I asked. 鈥淗ow much were the boots oh 25 coins, but鈥e didn鈥檛 let me finish. 鈥淭hat鈥檚 expensive鈥? Yes sir. Say can you meet me in my room at the castle in about an hour? Yes, sir, but how will I get in I said surprised. You鈥檙e the Ranger you figure that out, he smiled. 鈥淥k but why鈥?鈥淚 want you to see my new experiment. Then with one last glance he headed for castle.
About an hour later I headed to the castle. Getting across the gates wasn鈥檛 a problem. It was getting up to the wizard. He had the tallest room in the tower. I knew I couldn鈥檛 just go through the castle you needed permission to do that. So I looked around no guards that鈥檚 weird I thought. Something big must e going on.
So I snuck in. The first hallway was surprisingly easy. I glanced around there were a few old paintings and some swords on the wall that looked liked they needed a dusting. Then it was on to the second floor also easy.
I was about to creep up the stairs when I heard voices. 鈥淵es so what鈥檚 this wonderful plan of yours鈥?I heard my master ask.
It was my master and the king. I looked around for a closet. There wasn鈥檛 one. 鈥淭hen I remembered a lesson I was thought. 鈥淲hen you don鈥檛 want to be seen blend in鈥? So that鈥檚 what I did I quick grabbed a broom and pretended to clean in the corner.
鈥淏e patient Ariawin the wizard said he鈥檇 show us when he鈥檚 ready鈥?It was the king again. I heard them walk away. But, I waited a few minutes to be sure. Then I went up the stairs.
Chapter 4
I creped through his door like I did at Evelyn鈥檚. He was busy tinkering away at his desk. 鈥淪ir鈥?I must have startled him because jumped up. 鈥淲hy Kanin it鈥檚 about time you have come鈥?鈥?Come come closer this is my experiment. He pointed to a little boxy room with all kinds of machines I had never seen before. 鈥淲hat is it sir鈥?I asked. 鈥淭he answer to are prayers a time machine and for heavens sake call me Merlion鈥? 鈥?A time machine?鈥?Does it work? 鈥淲hy yes of course boy I鈥檝e already done many tests, this is the key to ending the war鈥?鈥淲ait I asked is this the kings new plan. 鈥淵es of course boy鈥?鈥淲ell with all do respect sir, why are you letting me see this鈥? 鈥淏ecause boy I like you and I think you will help win this war.鈥?鈥淪orry to disappoint you, but I鈥檓 nothing like Ariawin鈥?I told him. 鈥淲hy boy you are more then you realize鈥?he said. 鈥淥h and by the way I got you something鈥? He handed me a pair of boots 鈥淲hy thank you Merlion鈥?鈥淎nd this he handed me a new cloak too. 鈥淥h no I can鈥檛 except this鈥? 鈥淥h, yes you will what鈥檚 the point of having money if you can鈥檛 spend it鈥?he asked me.
鈥淧lus I couldn鈥檛 have you seeing the king dressed like that鈥?he pointed to my old cloak. Personally I didn鈥檛 think it looked that bad, but all I could manage to stutter was 鈥渢he king?!鈥? 鈥漌hy yes of course I need the kings permission so you can help me with my experiment鈥? He relied as if it was obvious. 鈥淪o will you volunteer鈥?the wizard asked. 鈥淲hy yes of course! What do I have to do?鈥?鈥淪imple I will send you to the future and you will bring back people and weapons to help us win this war and put the new cloak on I鈥檓 expecting the king any second!鈥?I put the cloak on and was about to respond when the king ,a few knights, and my master was there!
鈥淜anin what are you doing here鈥? My master asked. 鈥?Merlion the wizard asked me to come鈥? He just nodded confused.
鈥淓xcuse gentlemen, but I believe I have found the answer to winning this war. We have used all are weapons and technology we have in this age. We need stronger weapons and plans if we are ever to defeat Cystance.鈥?
鈥淲ell what then are we to do鈥? The king asked.
鈥淕o to a different age bring back weapons and people. People who have experienced winning strategies. We just need to do one thing. We need a person to go to the future or past. But, who may I ask would go. Any stubborn adult who went would find adapting to these new cultures complicated. But, what if a child went? A child is able to adapt quickly and learn eagerly. That is why, with the king鈥檚 and Ariawin鈥檚 permission I recommend Kanin. He is quick and witty and this would be a chance to prove himself. So that is my one request. Any questions鈥?
Everyone was speechless including me. I was the last hope for my country? I was excited, terrified, nervous, and happy at the same time.
My master and the king exchanged glances and went in the corner to talk. Everyone was silent and was either starring at the wizard or me. I couldn鈥檛 stand the silence much longer.
鈥淢erlion 鈥淚 asked. Everyone turned to me. 鈥淚f you鈥檙e a wizard couldn鈥檛 you just zap me or someone there instead of using an machine鈥? I guess I asked a question on everyone鈥檚 mind because they all looked at the wizard for the same answer. 鈥渨ell, magic isn鈥檛 that easy and I鈥檝e always been good with my hands and well鈥︹€漢e mumbled on.
I was going to question further when I felt my masters hand on my shoulder. 鈥淓xcuse me Merlion can you give us a moment鈥? my master asked the wizard. 鈥?Oh by all means take all the time you need.? 鈥淭hank You鈥?I added my master often forgot about things like that.
We walked out of the chamber. He waited a few seconds before he spoke. 鈥淜anin this is big there鈥檚 a lot to consider. Your training, and the kingdom. I have faith in you and we the king and I are willing to let you do this if you want. But, it really doesn鈥檛 matter what I think its what you think. You can go, but only if you want.鈥滻 stopped pacing and thought about it. 鈥淏ut, what if I screw up鈥? I asked. 鈥淜anin you don鈥檛 give yourself enough credit. Your keen, adventurous ,sly, and determined. That鈥檚 all you need.鈥?br>
He turned to me 鈥淭he choice is yours鈥? It was true the worst I could do is fail and they would have to pick someone else to do it again. 鈥淵es鈥? I said I sounded more confident then I felt.
鈥淕reat鈥? He lead me back to the wizards room. 鈥渨e have an answer he announced. 鈥?I turned to everybody 鈥淵es鈥? Some knights scowled hopping I鈥檇 say no and they would go, but everyone else seemed happy even the king( which was surprising because I thought he didn鈥檛 like me).
Chapter 5
It was all set in an hour I鈥檇 leave. Merlion had given me some idea of what the future might be like. He said we would be going to the 20th. Century. He wouldn鈥檛 tell me what to expect. I鈥檇 had asked him about why he can鈥檛 see that, but he just said he didn鈥檛 want to ruin the surprise. I was beginning to think he couldn鈥檛 do magic at all just an old man who is genius. So I waited in the chamber and waited to what seemed like forever. Then finally Ariawin came to get me.
Before I knew it I was in the wizards den ready to go. 鈥淏est of luck Kanin鈥?The wizard said. 鈥淵es, my master agreed and remember no matter what you鈥檒l make us proud. 鈥淵eah just don鈥檛 screw up ok the wizard added. And that was it the door closed and I was on my way to a new age. I was flying through space and was being flung against the sides and boxes when I heard a voice. 鈥淥w watch it鈥?Wait I knew that voice. I scrambled to my feet. 鈥淐racker?鈥?
鈥? Who else? He smiled. You snuck on! Are you mad! I asked. No, but are you? He asked. Actually I was secretly relieved I smiled 鈥渋ts nice to have a friend along in a life death situation.鈥?鈥淎w don鈥檛 worry we will get there I trust Mervie he smiled. Cracker had been my friend s茅ance forever. No one remembered his real name. His parents died when he was really young and he had always been a born comedian. So it stuck.
We started catching up and laughing. 鈥淪o how鈥檚 being a knight? I asked laughing because I knew he hated it. 鈥渋t sucks! I mean what鈥檚 the point? We train like zombies and kill people what鈥檚 fun about that? Can鈥檛 you train for something else then? No they won鈥檛 let me it sucks. 鈥淔un I agreed sarcastically.
A few hours later it finally stopped. I think we landed. Because I heard this big crash that I swore should have killed us. We both climbed out and saw the weirdest things. Huge, castles, millions of people, and carriages without horses? It was all so loud it seemed everyone was yelling. I was scared to death, but it was the opposite to Cracker. 鈥淭his is amazing look at all this stuff. 鈥淵ou ok? He asked. 鈥淵eah fine lets go. 鈥淲here? Cracker made a good point where should we go? It was so different. 鈥淚 guess we find the king I suggested. 鈥淐racker snapped his fingers right you always were the smart one.
We started down the road. A few people whistled at us, and called us some names I probably shouldn鈥檛 repeat but most people just stood there and laughed.
鈥淗ey Kanin鈥?br>
Yeah? Where are we going? That was a good question. 鈥淭o the king鈥?I said again. 鈥淵eah I mean where is the king? He stopped to look at me. 鈥淢aybe we should ask someone for directions. 鈥淣o, I鈥檒l find him I said well find him.
A few hours later we were still walking. 鈥淐ome on Kanin just ask someone. 鈥淣o鈥?I said he was starting to get on my nerves, but he kept going on. Your sounding like a women Cracker I don鈥檛 need directions. Look, I pointed t the building in front of us. There were here. How do you know he lives here he asked. It鈥檚 the tallest building isn鈥檛 it? 鈥淥h yeah, your right again.
Hey, he tapped me on the shoulder. What does that sign say? 鈥淐racker you still can鈥檛 read! He shook his head. Ok it says The Empire State Building.
鈥淲hoa a whole empire you are smart鈥?Cracker added again. Good story. |
