How long does it take to find out what someone is like.?

I am ending a 6 month relationship because the person was not suited to me. When I first met him he was enthusiastic and I thought we were well suited but then 10 weeks into the relationship I started to get to know him more and could tell what he was like. He seemed different to when I first met him, but I don't think 10 weeks is long enough to find out what someone is really like but I really did find out what he was like in this short space of time. Now, 6 months on things didn't work out as I gave him a chance to improve things and it didn't get better.
So, how long do you think it takes to find out what someone is like?

There is no correct answer to that. I was with someone for 13 years and we still broke up. You have to be willing to take some risks otherwise you are destined for a life alone.

at least 6 mos. that is when the newness wears off and some honest behavior happens.

depending
rarly months
and usually
years

to truly know a person quite a few years

For me, I had the same situation, I was dating this guy and he started acting funny, and then I found out after I was seeing him, he got another girl pregnant, and then he told me he had a doctor's appointment to check out his brain, yeh, the lower one, and so he lied to me, because he actually went to have a DNA test and yep, the baby was his!!!!

But it is all better for me, I am back with my wonderful hubby who is far better than that creap, and who loves me and who is more honest with me than that creap ever was!!!!!!

See, things happen for a reason, and I am glad that this happened, because if I would have stayed with that creap, then a whole lot of crap would be happening!!!!!

Now, I reconcilled with my husband, renewed our vows, and we are more happier than anything!!!!!!

During this whole mess with the creap, my husband and I were getting back together, and he helped me out, and by him doing this, I fell more in love with him than I ever did!!!!

If he doesn't make your hormones hop, there is no hope.
If all that happens between you is hopping hormones there isn't much hope there either.
After 6 months you will have started to see what the real person is like and stopped being infatuated with your construct of him. If result of those two events don't meld together into a nice package, time to bail out.
Don't short change yourself. If you have to start setting guidelines to 'improve things' this early in the relationship it does not set a good precedent for the future. You will be setting yourself up for a lifetime of negotiation, not satisfaction.

i think it can take as long as a year after the whole getting to know you stage is over and you start getting comfortable it's possible to see thing's you haven't seen before because their not trying to impress you now. but if it takes you awhile to see thing's you may not see stuff like that for a few years.

sometimes it could even take a lifetime for one person to really get to know the person he/she is living with.

I've been married about 35 years and am not sure yet. Ask again in about 3 years as I might know then.

when you first meet someone they are on their best behavour also you have rose-tinted glasses on - it could take as long as a year to find out what each other is like

I don't think time is a factor in getting to know someone - situations are more revealing. Sometimes we don't see a person for what they really are until a particular situation developes.

An opportunity to cheat might come up very early in a relationship or not for years - the reactions of your partner could be a real suprise no matter how long you've been together.

Stressfull situations are great when it comes to getting to know people. Panic, abuse & neglect are just a few things that can set in when times get tough.
