Do parallel lines REALLY meet in space or is that a lie? No, parallel lines never meet no... I never thought about it, but... Well remember the definition of parallel lines (Lines that never Crosse each other), key word there, NEVER parallel lines don't meet in normal space based on Euclidean mathmatics. If you were to approach the concept of parallel lines from a different mathmatical theory or by altering the system, then yes they would meet. This talk of universe and stuff like that is kind of like saying you can smell something cooking in another country. It's not practical. parallel, for any purposes we would consider, and in our current concepts of math will never meet in space. If lines ever meet then they wouldn't be called "parallel" in the first place. If you want to extend the concept of parallel lines onto the scale of the universe (13.7-billion light years) then there was a time when the shape of the universe wasn't known. One theory was that it was shaped something like a saddle, and if so then if two "parallel" lines were extended far enough they would eventually converge. Now, though, it's thought that the universe is "flat," and in such a universe parallel lines would never converge. if they're PARALLEL LINES, as you learned in math, of course they don't meet, no matter what, if they meet they won't be parallel right? yes it is a lie if they meet, they are not parallel end of story its a proven fact |
