How do you feel about Blog site such as My Space and Yahoo 360?

Recently on My Space a young man committed suicide and left his last words as a posting on the site. There have also beeen incidents of girls being abducted or running away with men they had met on these sites. I left My Space after the young man killed himself. I am still on 360 but with a quick click on the mouse you run into pornography there with little or no control. How do you feel about these sites and the controls on them?

OK how do you feel about social interacting sites such as My Space and
yahoo 360? Sheesh.

Firstly the sites you mention are much more than Blog sites. They are engineered much more to be social networking sites, where of course you will have more interaction between people than on a basic blogging service.

I think that My Space is one of the worst sites on the internet to be honest. The pages that are made by people look (by and large) terrible and the whole thing is coated with adverts. I would even prefer MSN Spaces to My Space. I prefer Yahoo 360 for its cleaner and more professional look. But I don't think you are too interested in web design. You are more into the ideas behind them.

The idea of My Space and Yahoo 360 is to allow people to easily make webpages (or blogs) which will lead to the broadening of the persons social network as other people get interested. I don't think that they are necessarily a bad thing in theory. Obviously there is debate over whether controls should be imposed on these sites (and the internet as a whole). Personally I think not. The free and open nature of the internet weher anyone can get their ideas published instantly for nothing is a great thing. The issues you discuss are the price of this freedom.

I think that blogs and social networking shouldn't get confused. Software like Blogger is far less dangerous than sites like MySpace and 360 as there's less social interaction.

I like yahoo 360 more than myspace, but I think that yahoo 360 has about 0.001% the number of active posters. People between the ages from 10-21 have all flocked to myspace.

Myspace is a ripp off of livejournal.com. They are trying to do the same sort of thing.

If you want a blog that doesn't look like it was designed by 14 old who just consumed mass quanties of sugar and caffine than buy your own domain space from a host like Ipowerweb.com.

Wordpress, Typepad or Drupal will all allow you to create professional looking blogs with some knowledge of HTML.
