How am i gonna tell him i need space?

im planning on meeting with my boyfriend tonight to tell him that i need some space and time to think things through. i believe that this is the only way we can save our relationship. however, whenever i bring up needing space and time to clear my head, he gets all panicked and thinks that we're breaking up, or sometimes, he gets really mad and offers an ultimatum that its either we just break up or not.. i dont wanna break up at all, but i really believe that by not spending much time together and respecting each other's space just for a while, we can value our love and relationship more. how should i tell him this and make him listen? he doesn't even give me the chance to explain, and instead of acting positive about the chance to salvage our very rocky relationship, he just gets all cold with me, and sort of like he's mad at me..

i have the same problem
im trying to do the same thing because we haven't seen each other and he's jumping to the same conclusion.
guys are stupid sometimes. lol
tell him that if he wants to save your relationship you need to take a break for a little while because you are feeling claustrophobic.

Tell him straightforward and get over it. If he's this worried about the space deal he's seems kind of obsessive and possesive.
