Why do ships on startreck, always meet the same way up?

if 2 space ships set of from 2 diffrent worlds how come on startreck they always meet up in space the same way up

Cause the strings are all hanging from the same ceiling.

It works this way because the computers on all Federation star ships have been programmed to meet that way. It makes it easier on the special effects artists that do the visuals.

That's a great question, and yea why do they? maybe cos its not real and it looks better on TV like that.

STAR TREK honey. you are obviously not a fan and you definitely havent seen the spin offs or films - the Enterprise can go upside down and so can the alien ships when in battle. They even approach at an angle. Now the Borg Ship which is a huge spherical shape or cube shaped - how do you know if that is the right way up or not!

Because Star Trek is fiction written by human beings who spend there whole lives in Earth's gravitational field... the concept of "no such thing as up or down" doesn't mesh well with our normal experience, but you are correct, the ship's are generating their own internal artificial gravity (neat trick that) so there would be absolutely no reason for any of them to be oriented like any other ship out there. Good eye.

They don't. Just because when visual communications are set up and officers from either ship view each other upright, does not mean that they're oriented in the same way in space. These exterior shots of the spacecraft don't show little people standing inside of them, so how can you tell? Huh?

I always wonder that and reckon it's that they meet at every angle but the sensors relay the visual information back to the ship so that the image is the right way up (a bit like the images we see upside down but get turned up the right way by our brains).

I also want to know why the ship always turns to the port or starboard and never up or down. And what do they say when there is another ship approaching? It's always "there is a Romulan Warbird decloaking off the starboard bow" and never "right below us".

Finally, how does the communication system onboard know whom to send the voice communication to? They tap their com. badges and say "Crusher to Picard - I have an emergency in sickbay". How come that only Picard hears the message instantly and right from the beginning, when it's only when the word "Picard is mentioned that the computer would know to whom to send the message!

Cause the Captin doesn't want to look like an idiot.

Also, if the computer knows there's an intruder on board, and the external phasers are computer guided, why can't the computer just shoot all the aliens the second they step on board?

Obviously if it was real the ships would sometimes meet with one being "upside down" but it would look silly on tv (and in real life!). I too wondered about the communications and how the computer knows who to send the message to. And have you noticed whenever there's a power failure and the crew are close to death with no life support etc that the artificial gravity is always working 100%? Wouldn't the crew be floating around? Also why do the turbolifts only have 1 set of doors? A lift has 2 sets (the set in the buildings walls and the set on the lift itself). If you asked the holodeck to put you on top of a cliff/tall building, turned off the mortality failsafe and then jumped off, would you die? If a hand phaser can disintegrate an object then why cant the ships phasers? Finally, there was a nuclear war so how come the Golden Gate Bridge and Eiffel Tower are still standing? Did the missiles aimed at Paris and San Francisco all miss?

Oh my goodness people, the trekkies have taken over !!!!! Well Live long and prosper and call me Spock..Bones....Where ..is..my..ship? (hard to do a Kirk while typing.
I can only think of one question that was not asked....Why did they change the uniforms and take away the mini tunics? Sorry ladies....star trek had some of the best looking legs on television.

Side note: the "Z" factor in navigation was brought up in "Wrath of Kahn" where Kahn was flying in an x and y movement only.

Ship Intercoms - (all the questions asked here were valid) notice on Star Trek TOS, the intercoms had like 4 or 5 buttons that could "switch channels" but every nook and cranny had an intercom? There was always there you could hit with the side of your fist and talk to anyone anytime.
