40 gig or 80 gig...?

I am really unsure about what Playstation 3 to purchase. 40 gig is cheaper and fits perfectly into my budget (I am selling my wii on ebay, I just am not a big fan of it). It has more than enough space and meets almost all of my needs.

The reason I am considering the 80gb Playstation 3 is that it plays PS2 disks. I never had a PS2 and would like to purchase a copy of Bully. Bully is currently 20 dollars for the PS2 and 60 for the 360 when it comes out in February. That knocks 40 dollars off the price as I was going to purchase the 360 version anyways.

Also, I have never played the MGS games and would like to play 2 and 3 since they are dirt cheap on ebay. Other games me and my friends always played were Max Payne and MVP Baseball 2003.

Finally, the 80gb comes with Motorstorm. I wouldnt usually buy that game but the graphics are cool and it looks like a neat game.

Knowing all the info I gave, which one is my best bet? The cheaper 40gb model or backwards compatable 80gb?

This question is an often one, so that's my cut & paste answer:
1). 20GB has no chrome trim, no memory card reader and no wi-fi. Not manufactured anymore. Has the best backwards compatibility with PS2 games due to Emotion Engine (PS2's CPU) and Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU) installed.
2). NTSC 60GB has the same backwards compatibility as 20GB version, also has memory card reader and wi-fi. Has a chrome trim.
3). 80GB - extended memory, but reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games, it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played. Available only in NTSC regions.
4). 40GB - can't play PS2 games at all (all PS2 chips were removed), has 2 USBs instead of 4, no memory card reader, has wi-fi. Avalable in black and white colors. White is on sale only in Japan. Uses 65nm technology (lower power consumption). Improved cooling system.
5). PAL 60GB - reduced backwards compatibility with PS2 games. it has only Graphics Synthesizer (PS2's GPU). Around 80% of PS2 games can be played.

buy the 80gb or 60gb better than 40gb and get resistance fall of man with it best shooter game and get MGS 4 when it comes out it will be the best game ever

I guess it all depends upon if you really do want to play PS2 games or not. It doesn't make sense to buy a 40G PS3 and a PS2, as the cost difference roughly $100 between PS3s (looking at Newegg) and a new PS2 costs ~$120. Now you could probably get a used PS2 for cheaper, but you're still looking at spending at least $60 for a used system that has no warranty, more if you buy through Gamestop and get a warranty. Plus then you have two systems and all the bulk of setting up both systems.

I would just go with the 80G PS3.

You definately need to buy the 80GB PS3 without a doubt man. You've got a lot of catching up to do and you really need to play some of the PS2's games.

If you play Metal Gear Solid 4 without playing at least the 2nd or 3rd MGS game, you wont know anything about the story or characters because in some of the trailers for MGS4, some old characters return.

Also, some of the best games ever to come out came out on the PS2, so I think that you really need to get the 80GB PS3 and play some of the PS2's older games, especially games like:
Metal Gear Solid 2 & 3
God of War 1 & 2
Jak and Daxter
Jak 2
Jak 3
Shadow of the Colossus
Killzone, and a bunch of other games.

i would go for the 80gig ive been look into both of them and it looks better. and i'm sellin my wii on ebay to.
