College roommate is big alcholic? What to do?

I am heading to college and i met my roommate we are like in different worlds he wants beer, liquor and chicks all the time. Im a diabetic who needs to sleep and will have my meds in a fridge and he wants to store his beer near my insuling. What can i do? I mean i dont no what college will be like or if they will allow for alcohol in the rooms. Do most parties take place outside of college dorms or in them? Im going to a junior catholic college.

Well I dont know about the catholic colleges, but im assuming its about the same as others. Really the only partying that goes on in the dorms is pre-gaming, and that lasts for like an hour. Most colleges you cant have alcohol in the dorms (but of course people have it in there), so what partying that may be going on in the dorms, will be VERY minimal, because it will have to be kept on the DL. Also, about the whole fride situation, maybe you should just split it in half...you get on shelf and he gets one, you get half the door, he gets the other half...that way you wont have to worry about the beer touching your meds.

Most likely they will NOT allow alcohol in the dorm rooms, although sometimes people do bring it in. I ended up moving off campus in order to save money and save my sanity. My room mates were insane and we had very different goals in life, similar to your situation. One thing you can do is tell your room mate that you are very different than him and that you would like to keep the dorm as a safe haven away from the high-energy college lifestyle. If all else fails, meaning, if he is uncooperative and you are having problems with living with him, you'll need to ask for a room change or something. Just ask if you guys can set up a few basic rules for BOTH you guys... such as: only X amount of friends over at one time during the school week, and Y amount during the weekend. No drinking inside the dorm room. No overnight guests unless it is previously cleared with the other room mate. those three rules should be accepted pretty easily. try making a joke about his "fuddy duddy" room mate (yourself) and how you wouldn't want to make him or his friends uncomfortable with your dietary, sleeping, and medical habits. Good luck! And (I can say this cuz I'm Catholic too - hehe) if it gets really bad, have one of the nuns come over and smack his knuckles when he reaches for a beer. God bless!

dang, a catholic college with a drunk? weird... talk to the guy! Tell him you don't like him drinking alcohol in the room. And talk to him when he isn't drunk! ;)
