Any tips on goin away to college ???

Im going to Oswego State University in Sept.

Im really nervous about goin away. this is going to be
a totally new experience for me. i dont really know what to expect. other than having a room mate i dont know, meeting different people and other stuff.im a really shy person with people i dont know at first so im nervous about making new friends.

can any one give any ideas or tips about what im about to go through? thx ill really appreciate it. =]

first of all i would say GET INVOLVED! in college you will meet tons of people that are similar to you if you can just find them and plug in with them then, they can make a great support team when you need them! most colleges have a freshman weekend with activities to get people to make friends, thats where i met my fiance the first week of school!

BE FRIENDLY- these kids don't know anyone either, they are all looking for new friends too. so try not to be as judgemental. i'm a skinny perfect pageant girl blond but my best friend in college was a sorority sister who was black and loud and a little on the big side, but i wouldn't trade her for the world! also dorms are a popular hang out so don't just lock yourself in your room, get out there and smile! watch tv in the lobby or something like that, don't just hide.

you are going to LOVE LOVE LOVE college! i'm jealous that i can't re-live my freshman year.

My ideas would be to make sure you stay on your toes with your studies. The parties will be there every day if not every weekend and you can pick any day out of the week to do that. Don't get it twisted, you can be distracted. Find some good organizations to be involved with that have community service things going on,etc. You will enjoy helping someone else and it will keep you from being shy and get you used to being around people. The organization you choose to be in will help you make more friends and break out of your shell. Take a Speech class and you will definately break out of your shell. Above all study hard and have fun because once it is over it is over. Good luck!!!!
