Do i really need drywall tape? (more)

there is a certain part of the room where 2 walls meet at 90 dgree angles, the height is about 7 feet. anyways i removed the tape, which took alot of the wall out from top to bottom and just filled it with compound to even out the difference and make it smooth again. i was told though i needed tape cuz my wall will crumble, but it looks good to me?

Not seeing how a "stupid" piece of tape does anything is like saying you don't see how the face paper on the dry wall works, either. Might as well leave off the corner beads, as well; why not skip the screws, while you鈥檙e at it?

Drywall is installed as a "System", you need all of the parts to make it work right.

You can tape it now, or chisel it all out and do it right later; but you will do it at some point.

Your tape is there to provide long term support. Your mud is pretty weak and soft on it's own but when you put tape there, it strengthens it a lot. Sort of like when you put rebar in concrete. If you don't put tape on, the mud will end up cracking or breaking when you hit it with something. I would mud it, It's an extra step but it will save you a lot work in the long run. Come on! If the stupid tape did not do anything do you think professional drywallers would put it up just for the fun of it? The tape helps prevent stress cracks in the corner as has been said.

Without drywall tape, the joint will crack with the first bit of stress. Remember, stud walls expand and contract with humidity and temperature. You'll see.

Yes. You must tape. There are no shortcuts or the joints will crack in a year or two. Do it right or do it again.

As long as the wall is smooth again, then you shouldn't need tape. Whatever compound you used to fill in the corner should hold the drywall.
