PLEASE HELP, how do I tell him that he is IDENTICAL to my dad????

My first language is not english, & I'm sorry for any mistakes.

3 years ago I lost my dad.
2 years after that, I met a guy in a chat room. To my surprise all his answers were the exact same answers that my father used to give me, even his personal jokes, even the music and specific songs that he liked, even his ability in mathematics and many many other things. I spoke to him for a year, and every time, I was extremely surprised and touched: How on earth can this young boy (he is 3 years younger than me) can be so similar to my dad? Finally I met him, and thank God he did not look like my dad! But everything else was the same. I NEVER told him this.

How should I tell this guy the truth?
How do you think he will react? I want to be just friends with him, but I think he likes me.

I am afraid it will sound too weird to him, and he'll stop contact with me, and I do not want that to happen. He is like a gift to me that reminds me of my dad. Please help! What do I tell him?

First of all, I'm sorry for your loss.

I think you shouldn't lead this guy on (if he likes you); don't make it seem like you're attracted to him or anything, so he doesn't pursue you (because you don't want him to).

Ok, this is kind of a tricky question.

If you tell him he reminds you of your dad, and he gets "freaked out" and leaves, you *could* say that a real friend wouldn't do that, and so he's not worth being friends with. However, the problem is, if he DOES leave, he's not just like any other friend... his leaving would probably really really hurt you (he seems to be a great friend who, in addition, reminds of something greater...).

On the other hand, if you never tell him, you'll probably always think about it, and always "feel" like telling him... you'd probably feel like you're holding something back when you interact with him.

Why don't you just bring it up casually? Maybe say something like, "You know what, it's really funny. I never told you this before, but one of the reasons I feel so close to you and so comfortable around you is because you remind me of someone very special..." If you say something like that, he'll probably feel closer and more connected to you, and he'd likely be very touched.

First off DON'T tell him he is identical to your dad. Why do you need to do this?

He is not identical to your Dad.

My wife sees a lot of characteristics of her father in me. I am kind, I honor her, I am faithful, I have the same sense of humor, but I am not as dependent as he was to her mother. He could not write a check. I am very different in many ways but in values we are very similar.

So it is natural for you to be attracted to him and if you look around you will see things that are very different.

If you so feel compelled to tell him, any easy way to tell him, is in a simple statement, I think it need not be overly dramatic or drawn out, and can be embelished upon in future conversations .
Saying something simple like " I really value my friendship with you, and you have a lot of personality great personality attributes that remind me of what I valued in my father" would work. I mean you don't have to say that word for word, but you get the point.
