Is my OBGYN crossing the line??? I'm 32 weeks pregnant....please help.? |
When I first moved here, my primary care doctor gave me a papsmear. Exactly 1 week later I met my new OBGYN and he demanded to give me another papsmear. I thought it was strange..especially since my results from the one a week ago already came in and he looked at. He has also told me that I was very pretty before etc. Normally there was a female nurse in the room with me..but this one time there wasn't one and he also didn't wear gloves when he was examining me. He touched my clitoris and explained he was just checking it out to make sure it looks healthy. People are telling me that this is wrong and he is abusing me...I am a little niave sometimes and don't think that he would do that to me. Maybe a nurse was too busy to enter the room?? or he didn't wear gloves so it's easier to feel for things? Please someone give me input. I am 32 weeks pregnant and I NEED to be seeing a doctor and it is going to be so hard for me to find a new one especially in time. Please help. Thanks. I am in a tough situation. Should I stay with him or look for a new one? I will be giving birth in 8 weeks so this is extremely important. I have an appointment with him this Thursday. His behavior is NOT acceptable. A Dr should never exam a patient like that without a nurse present. Insist that a nurse be in the room during exams, and that he wear gloves. He could be passing on bacteria/infections to you and your unborn child...Report him to the local AMA board....can't say that a lot will happen, but if this is his standard thing, maybe other women will come forward. Ask a friend who knows a nurse, see if she can suggest a Dr that may take you at this time due to the circumstances. Okay, by law, a male OB/GYN must have a nurse present while conducting an exam. Unfortunately the advice you are getting seems to be correct. You are entitled to have a female present for an exam and the fact that they use gloves does not alter how they feel if your okay. This does sound very much like an abuse of power and an abuse of you. i would talk to the authorities and tell them what happened and get yourself another ObGyn immediately. YES THAT IS TOTALLY INAPPROPRIATE! not only is it inappropriate but it is totally unsanitary too. NO doctor EVER should not wear gloves when examining you. think about it ... what did they last touch? someone with herpes? ok that may be an exaggeration but still. you need to talk to him about it or just screw it and find a new obgyn and also talk to whoever referred you to him. good luck .. definitely don't go back! good luck with your baby and congratulations! a male doctor should have a chaparone always when examining a womans privates. gloves should also always be worn when there is potential to contact any fluids. the clitoris can be checked and may be normal to check. but any "pretty" comments are wrong. NOT USING GLOVES IS COMPLETLY UNSANITARY. well.....should your next appointment include a dinner and movie.....m-a-y-b-e you need another doc!..(or at any point in your next exam to hear the word WOW exclaimed) Yes that doctor was wrong. One he no doctor has ever checked me with no gloves on ( totally against all sanitary rules), secondly no doctor has ever checked my clitoris for anything. Next time tell him in no uncertain terms you want a nurse in the room or he will not examine you. I use to work in a obgyn when first started nursing he is clearly crossing the line it is going against state medical board rules to check a female being a male doctor without his nurse its no such thing as her being too busy !! it also goes against the rules to not use gloves they are for your protection &his report this man to the state medical board &take your husband or some other relative in the room with you if you must go back you really do not have to see him again normally there is 2 doctors in each office see if you can change i don't know if they will give you a hard time or not each practice is different its probally likely that this hasn't just happened to you by him don't go back alone try today to get another doctor or try the other one in that office remember report his *** he deserves it !! There is not excuse for him to not have a female nurse in the room. I believe it is the law for a male to have a female present when examining a female. Also, not using gloves is unacceptable. Anytime a healthcare provider comes in contact or is a risk or coming in contact with body fluids they must wear gloves. I would find another doctor if you can and think about reporting him. I know it's tough but what he's doing is wrong. don't be a victim. He is abusing/molesting you!!! Don't let him continue to do this :O Get a lawyer or something, tell somebody who can do something about him. He should have his medical license taken away from him. And I have never in my life had a gynecologist say they needed to examine my clitoris! |
