Just got back from russia and germany...got a question?

why are russians no fun? i must have met over 20 and they just didnt seem to have a sense of humor- not that they couldnt understand my english either. i even watched a soccer/football match with them and they were just like lifeless as they watched.


then i went to austria for a day but germany for 4 days. they were so much fun! they were so helpful in showing me around the cities and very open to discussing politics. so full of life in their conversations- yet not mean.


did i just get really unlucky with my experience with the russians? it seems as if they just have this mindset where there is no room for fun in life. only cold hard facts. the germans were amazing! not only fun but extremely kind.


this is just based on my expierience there.

so is this how it really is?

btw i went to moscow and st. petersberg and kiev in ukraine (people not much different save views on politics) and vienna, essen, and munich.

It was just the people you were around. You have to remember that everyone is different, and some people take time to warm up to someone new. You can't expect everyone to throw themselves at you without knowing you at all (unless they want money from you). A thing to remember is that tourism isn't really one of the key things in Russia's economy, so not much attention is paid to it. Either way, I'd suggest you give Russia a second chance. Otherwise stick to Austria and Germany

Oh, and can we please stop with the "hundreds of years of misery and alcoholism" stereotype? It really is quite annoying.

the russian are fun when you get to know them on their turf and do not forget for hundreds of years russian had a very hard life andnothing to look forward to yes they are somewhat of a downer and depressiv and the amount of alcohol they drink does not help to forget their sorrows

But they have the most beautiful women in Russia that's for sure. Also very few fat people unlike the United States.
