Problem of black mould around old windows where the sill meets the glass...a cunning idea!?

However much I clean it, it comes back in no time at all and when the window is open it blows little specks of black into the room. Technically, it needs to be sandpapered and painted, but I'm only renting and this might spread the mould even more (and would be a pain and I don't know how to do it). So I just had this cunning idea!

I'd like to hear suggestions/improvements. I'm going to clean the window (for the umpteenth time) with bleach or vinegar, so black dust isn't crumbling off, and then **put invisible 3M tape over the seal, the idea being to keep air and moisture away and even if mould grows behind the tape, it doesn't blow into the room!!** This should work, right? Is there anything you would recommend applying to the wood before I do this, like grapeseed oil (though this might stop the tape sticking) or tea tree or honey?!:^) or I don't know!! Any help gratefully welcomed!! :^)

I was joking about honey, by the way! But maybe some kind of wood preservative or wax or varnish or bicarbonate of soda or...?

bleach or vinegar will do the trick short term, and there are other mould sprays you can get from the supermarket.

another way to keep the moisture down is to get a moisture trap from a diy shop which has silica gel in which absorbs moisture.

also just thought salt might work if you leave some on the mould.

leaving the window open as much as poss will help cos mould likes it damp.

this may be worth looking at cos if it's the toxic black mould then you need your landlord to get it removed asap.

good luck

Well honestly you should consult a professional. Black mold is very dangerous. Cleaning it away is the easy part but its known to always come back. We live in a very old house and our weather is extremely hot and humid. They treated it with something I have no idea but it hasn't come back since. Try giving the experts a call, they might be able to suggest a remedy without having to come out. Good luck

If you have kids take care of it fast. Black mold is no joke, can kill you. Bleach will kill it
